“Barbra Against the World: The Making of Yentl (1983)”
When Barbra Streisand finally stepped behind a camera in 1983, the world acted as if she was attempting something outrageous. Direct. Produce. Co-write. Star. Sing. And adapt a beloved Isaac Bashevis Singer story while playing a teenage boy? In period costume? In a musical? In Europe? The opinion pages sharpened their knives before she even yelled “action.”

Ten Years Later: Making My Truce with the Star Wars Sequels
Despite having written endlessly on this page about all things Star Wars, I’ve never really felt compelled to dive into the sequel trilogy. Not because I consider them an abomination that should be scrubbed from the annals of history, nor because I harbor some burning hatred for them. It’s simpler than that. I watched them when they came out, felt they didn’t come together into the kind of experience I expect from the Star Wars universe, and quietly moved on. There was never this urge to vent or dissect them.

Who Are the Defenders?
The Marvel Universe was essentially created with a team book, "The Fantastic Four" in 1961. While Marvel actually started as Timely Comics, thriving in the 1940s with key heroes including Captain America, the original Human Torch, and Namor the Sub-Mariner Back then, the characters did interact, but they weren't a team until the 1970s, when they appeared as the Invaders, a book retroactively establishing them as a team fighting the Axis powers during World War II.

“Caught Stealing”: A Review
Grade: B+ It looks like Darren Aronofsky will never top Requiem for a Dream (2000) and maybe that’s not a bad thing. He just keeps experimenting with genres until he lands on the one winner that will be a critical, audience, and awards season success for him.

🐾 The Pet Detective 2025 Stole My Heart And My Popcorn 🍿
The Comedy We Didn't Know We Needed There is a specific kind of exhaustion that comes from living in the 2020s. It’s a low-level hum of anxiety, a constant scroll of bad news, and a cinematic landscape dominated by multiverse stakes where the entire fabric of reality is always five minutes away from collapsing. I walked into the theater to see The Pet Detective expecting nothing more than a distraction. I expected slapstick. I expected maybe a talking dog or two. I expected to check my watch.
