Ever since Avengers: Endgame, fans have been eagerly awaiting the next big step in the MCU. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is looking more and more likely to be that step. The MCU has been building to the multiverse since WandaVision, and the culmination of it will be in Multiverse of Madness. Fans have also wondered who would take over as leader of the MCU with the loss of both Iron Man, who started the MCU, and Captain America, who led the Avengers throughout the Infinity Saga. According to a new synopsis for the new Doctor Strange movie, the answer to all of the fans' questions lie in Doctor Strange himself.

A Japanese synopsis for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was recently released. This synopsis, which was translated by Cosmic Circus, reveals a bit more about the plot of the film and the future of the MCU. The statement reads;

"The door of the multiverse, full of mystery and madness, opens. Now that Iron Man and Captain America have left after a fierce battle in Avengers: Endgame, former genius surgeon and the strongest magician of them all, Doctor Strange, is expected to play an active role as a central figure in the Avengers. However, using his magic to manipulate time and space at will with a forbidden spell that is considered the most dangerous has opened the door to a mysterious madness called ‘the Multiverse.’ To restore a world where everything is changing, Strange seeks help from his ally Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, and the Avengers’ most powerful Scarlet Witch, Wanda. But a terrible threat looms over humanity and the entire universe that no longer can be done by their power alone. Even more surprising, the greatest threat in the universe looks exactly like Doctor Strange...”

Lastly, the synopsis briefly speaks about comic book film veteran, Sam Raimi;

“Director Sam Raimi, who has expressed a unique world view, will captivate the whole world with overwhelming scale and unprecedented visual experience that will transcend time and space!”

The synopsis definitely suggests that this movie will be an integral part of Phase 4 and the future of the MCU. From the synopsis, it also seems like Doctor Strange will be one of the core Avengers going forward. In the comics, Doctor Strange is consistently a prominent and powerful figure in the Marvel universe, so it makes sense for him to take up a larger role in the MCU and Avengers. If this is true, then Wanda could also become a much more central character in the MCU as well. The film will also introduce America Chavez, who has the ability to open portals to different universes in the multiverse. That could come in handy for an adventure through the multiverse or any future problems with the multiverse, which the MCU seems to be headed towards.

Marvel’s What If…? puts the multiverse front and center being the main premise of the show. Fans also believe that the evil Doctor Strange seen in the show may also be the villain of the Doctor Strange sequel. If fans are right, Doctor Strange will need all the help he can get. The Doctor Strange in What If…? was unable to stop the evil Doctor Strange from collapsing his entire universe, which would make him a threat to any Doctor Strange from any universe.

Without a doubt, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will give a lot of information about the future of the MCU and Doctor Strange’s role in it. The multiverse opens a ton of possibilities for the MCU. Spider-Man: No Way Home has shown some of the possibilities of the multiverse in the MCU, and it can only get better from here. Fans will just have to wait and see what the future of Doctor Strange, Scarlett Witch, and the entire MCU holds when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 26, 2022.
