THE SECRET ORIGIN OF BOUSHH! A “WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS” TIE-IN!

Before PRINCESS LEIA acquired his armor to infiltrate Jabba the Hutt’s palace, BOUSHH roamed the galaxy as a bounty hunter. He and his team of lethal warriors were exiled from their homeworld; but what horrible event from Boushh’s past doomed them all to wander with no hope of ever returning? Desperate to survive, Boushh takes a suspicious job from a shadowy organization to assassinate DOMINA TAGGE, the leader of the powerful Tagge Family – a galactic dynasty stretching back countless generations. But Domina is the most dangerous enemy Boushh has ever faced, and the desperate exile has the most difficult choice of his life to make!

Here’s one of the things about these that I love, I have no idea who these characters are but with these one-shots I am getting that opportunity to get to know them. I mean Boushh and his team may not be essential to the story but they are at the whole Crimson Dawn auction and this is the story how they get invited to it. It is a nice side note and while a non-essential story it is one that’s fun to read.

I am enjoying the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceedingly well. The character development that we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter and it does a marvellous job in fleshing these characters out. The pacing is excellent and as it takes us through the pages introducing the characters, the story and the world they inhabit we’re absolutely entertained.

The way that we see this being structured and how the layers within the story emerge and grow is extremely well rendered. The layers do wonders in opening up the avenues that we see being explored and those that aren’t, either way they all add this great depth, dimension and complexity to the story. What it does is introduce us to a whole new set of bounty hunters and new worlds and folks I’ve never heard of before. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is impeccably achieved.

I like the interiors here a whole lot. The linework we see is clean, crisp and sharp and how the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create the detail we see within the work is exceptionally well rendered. I do like how we see backgrounds being utilised throughout to enhance and expand the moments as well as how they work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a remarkable eye for storytelling. The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows a great understanding of how colour works and how to maximise its effects.

This is a great story. I love how we see that Bounty Hunters are so essential to life in the galaxy and how they are utilised to create this odd balance of power. It is true, as they work as assassin’s or simply capturing folks for others they work for the highest bidder and will upset or restore how the universe needs to work. These characters open up a new view of the galaxy and one that could and possibly should lead to further exploration of their exploits. With some amazingly sharp writing and dynamic & interesting characterisation wrapped up in the wonderfully solid interiors make for some dramatic reading.
