She-Hulk Review: "The People vs Emil Blonsky"

Jennifer Walters defends Emil Blonsky, and the episode gives us a very amazing cameo

No, you are not seeing things. That really is famous rapper Megan Thee Stallion shown with Tatiana Maslany's Jennifer Walters on the latest episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. This is clearly one of the most amazing celeb cameos in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it was originally supposed to be a surprise, of course, but Megan's MCU debut was leaked into the public eye.

About the episode as a whole, Jen found herself facing two dilemmas in the episode's opening. One, Emil Blonsky escaping prison and being in an underground fight club run by Wong (yes, that Wong), and two, the continuous public eye that Jen is in due to the fact that she is...well...She-Hulk. Of course, Wong has to be brought in to help explain why Blonsky was out of prison in the first place, and it draws this hilarious fourth wall breaking line from Jen:

"I know you can't wait to see Wong, I get it. I wanna make sure you don't think this is one of those 'cameo every week' type shows; it's not. Well...except Bruce. And Blonsky. And Wong. Just remember whose show this actually is."

Jen is advised by Nikki that she should give an interview in response to all of the public perceptions, but she refuses to do so. Meanwhile, she ends up encountering her former colleague, Dennis Bukowski, who is actually having his own problems. As it turns out, Dennis went on a date with who he thought was Megan Thee Stallion (hence the cameo), but it turned out to be Runa, a shapeshifting Light Elf from New Asgard. Dennis shelled out a lot of moolah on "Megan": $175,000 to be exact, and he wants it all back. He's being represented by Augustus "Pug" Pugliese (who debuted in Episode 2), but in a strange turn of events, Dennis returns and calls off the lawsuit. As Pug quickly realizes, "Dennis" was Runa, as he had just been in contact with the real Dennis prior to Runa's appearance.

As for Jen's case, she finally meets with Wong, who revealed that he made Blonsky escape (confirming a statement given by Blonsky earlier in the episode), but Blonsky returned to his cell on his own free will. Wong agrees to be a character witness in Blonsky's parole hearing, which reveals so much. For one, the former Abomination has eight admirers (they all watched his hearing), he had improved the reading system in the prison, and he helped a guard get out of his toxic marriage. Finally, Wong appears and gives his statement, and it results in Blonsky receiving his parole on the condition that he is permanently prohibited from shifting into Abomination again, though prior to this, he did shift one more time as part of his evidence that he was fully rehabilitated.

As for Dennis' case, after hearing Jen and Nikki's complaints about his immensely offensive character, Pug decided to have Jen serve as a character witness. Jen tells us what we already know about Dennis: he's arrogant, egotistical, misogynistic, and immensely deluded enough to believe that he could get a date with literally any woman on the planet--including Megan Thee Stallion. That last part was all that was needed to rule the case in Dennis' favor, and after hearing Dennis suggesting (during his "playing the victim" rant) that something should be invented that takes powers away from superhumans, Jen beams, as it could solve her problems. She does participate in a TV interview, but we later see Jen (as She-Hulk) fight off the Wrecking Crew easily, with the group saying that the "boss" would be disappointed in their failure. Which brings us to She-Hulk and Megan; that's from the mid-credits scene, which shows Megan becoming Jen's new client before the pair twerked together. Epic!

Megan Thee Stallion with Jameela Jamil

Episode 3, "The People vs Emil Blonsky," hit Disney+ on September 1, 2022, and (of course) the big talk in the episode is Megan Thee Stallion's cameo appearance. So who do we have to thank for this? None other than Jameela Jamil, who worked with the famous rappear on HBO Max's Legendary. It was Jamil who mentioned Megan behind the scenes, and it led to this epic cameo in this episode. BTW, She-Hulk's twerking? That was all Tatiana Maslany, all of it. Speaking of Jamil, it's clear that her character, Titania, is behind the Wrecking Crew's attack--the "boss" isn't mentioned by name, but one has to believe that Titania has to be pulling the strings. We should find out as soon as the following episode.

Episode 3 was a very good one, not just because of the cameo, but also Tim Roth's scenes as Emil Blonsky, as well as the B story's hilarious antics involving Dennis and Runa. We are one-third through this show, and I am just in love with it, it's one of the main reasons why I look forward to Thursdays!
