Secret Invasion has premiered. As Marvel’s latest installment of it's extensive universe I was immediately skeptical because as a comic book fan Secret Invasion is kind of a big story. So to handle that kind of story as a Disney+ show was already questionable. But then of course we found out that the director was instructed to not read the comics, because of course the MCU version is nothing even remotely similar to the comic book storyline. The only thing they share is a name, now not only is this misleading but it's unethical. If they had simply come up with a different title and said that it was inspired by Secret Invasion then everything would be fine. But keeping the original title and saying that the MCU was based on the comic book storyline is a blatant lie. It’s also wildly unethical to use the popularity of that story and not acknowledge or pay any of the comic book writers involved in that story. Again a small title change and “inspired by” would have fixed this problem.
Then of course we have the AI intro. And in the current state of the industry with executives desperately trying to replace artists and writers with AI it was more than just poor taste. Yes I understand a team of artists worked on the intro and then it was fed into AI, yes I understand that the director thinks he has a narrative reason for the intro to be AI, no I do not care. Using AI generated ANYTHING for any reason in the current climate is a bad decision, it is a disrespectful decision and there is simply no other way to see this. There is not and will never be a good enough narrative reason to use AI, ever.
It looks like we’re finally gonna get more Maria Hill, but the MCU has yet to actually write well for a woman character so I’m gonna go ahead and guess right now that they are gonna kill her off.
I love Emilia Clark, I am so so happy that she is a part of the MCU now and I pray that continues. She is amazing and no matter what else happens in this series I will keep watching for her.
It's too dark, what is this obsession DOPs have with making the actual scene as dimly lit as possible. WE NEED TO SEE.
Honestly the story seems kind of incoherent, I’ve got a vague idea of what this series is about. But the first episode essentially serves as a thesis statement, and as such this is a pretty weak one.
Also Fury remembering being dusted is fine and all but the further we get from the end of the Infinity Saga the more it feels played out when they bring it up. In fact all it does is serve as a reminder that the MCU peaked with Endgame, reminding people of their favorite MCU movie while watching a mediocre new MCU show is really not the play.
The Gaia and Talos dynamic is easily the most interesting part of this show.
The Skrulls have bombed a public place, theoretically in an attempt to assert their dominance over earth.
And I was in fact correct, we fridged Maria Hill…ya know sometimes I get tired of being right. Ya know fridging characters in 2023 is really embarrassing Marvel. First Kamala Khan in the comics and now Maria in the MCU? Seriously? Fire all the men because this is fucking ridiculous. Absolutely abhorrent and unforgivable. Marvel, get your fucking shit together this isn’t the fucking 50s, we are half of the god damn population and you better start fucking acting like it.
Opinion at the end of episode 1: Bullshit.
