thumbs up

Thumbs up for this innocent and charming boy who puts fingers down when asked if he can relate to a situation and he does. He only got 14,7 K views and I wonder. I wonder what the hell. The video is far from boring, even though he is not jumping through a ring of fire for my sole entertainment. And yet, I find it incredibly amusing.

To start with his face, the guy is unflappable, no argument there. Put a finger down if you ever peed your pants at school. We got a simple head shake from him, accompanied by a grim. For a matter so embarrassing, I would expect wild objections and at least a few “no, no, no” but he adhered to the style of the video and simply skipped to the next question.

The thing I liked the most about the video is that little “I am drifting away” facial expression, like the guy is a daydreamer or has been just kissed in the corridor by his crush. He gets excited only once in the video, when he relates to losing his phone, the rest of the time, “you can’t touch this”.

Another thing to like is how universal those situations are. I had a crush on a celebrity, pizza for breakfast, that’s my usual, and of course, crying during a movie, that’s me. By the comments section you can tell, people find those situations so common, they kept sharing how much alike are they with the guy. But the video, the bottom line is intended to be fun and light-hearted, you learn a little something and it gives you something to think of.

I think it did not get viral because of its simplicity. There is no shocking content like in a similar video where the creator explores how she has been racially discriminated. One of the most shocking points on the list was how you have to teach your children how not to get killed by the police. Now, that’s hardcore. But this guy, he is simply calm and collected, exploring everyday events that are borderline amusing. The questions are so ordinary. Where is put your finger down if you have ever tried drugs? Or if your dog has been run over by a car. Nope, nice and easy, little predictable, as a small minus.

Another thing that undermined the video is that it is a bit static. He is laying on his belly and he is supporting his head with his hand, that’s it. You can see a hint of excitement when he agrees he managed to embarrass himself in front of his crush, but no more, and it is the emotional peak of the video. I think if his reactions were more lively, it wouldn’t be so singular as a final result. The distinctive feature of the video is that he is so untouchable. There isn’t a question that can put him out of balance. It is not a song imitation video, it is not a dance video, it is a simple question/reaction one and the reactions are hilarious but hardly spectacular.

It is a very satisfying and calming piece of work, and it is a crying shame it did not get more attention. I watched it over and over again, to be honest, mostly because of that dreamy smile of the guy, and I also think the girl that reads the questions did a great job, she is impassioned and monotonous like a public transport announcement. But you have to admire the guy calmness. If I was making this video, I would be all over the place, but no this guy does it with a silly smile and expressive eyes. So thumbs up for the Finger down video, you really nailed it there, and kept me amused for a good five minutes, so well done. I even learned about a similar game, Amazing never have, and I am enthusiastic to try it with my friends. First question: have you ever published a story on Vocal, hehe.
