Another landmark was the 1957 film Jagga Daku which paved way for the action genre in Punjab.

Punjabi cinema later saw a revival with more releases in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. The cultural effects of Punjabi cinema have been seen as unifying Sikh communities across India and Pakistan or even amongst Sikhs settled in the UK.

When Did Punjabi Movies Start

Punjabi Movies are the commercial movie sector in Punjab. It is the most profitable and biggest entertainment industry in Punjab. It has a history of around 100 years and is considered the oldest entertainment industry in India.

Even though it has been there for a long time, it is still struggling to gain popularity and respect from the people.

Punjabi movies have been around for more than 100 years, but only recently have they started to get more attention from Bollywood. In the past few years, there have been some big productions starring some big stars like Akshay Kumar and Ranbir Kapoor that have made waves worldwide.

These films are a big deal because they represent an untapped market for Bollywood filmmakers who want to make films that appeal to Punjabis all over India and abroad as well.

Most people would be surprised to learn that Punjabi movies actually originated in India, not Pakistan or Bangladesh. The first Punjabi film was released in 1922 by an Indian director called Dada Kondke, called Kismet (Fate).

How Punjabi Movies are Made

Punjabi cinema has changed a lot over the years. From the days of ‘Jatt Jeona Morh’ to the days of ‘Carry On Jatta’, it has come a long way. With the rise of comedy in Punjabi films, it is only natural that people want to know what goes into making these films. Well, we at WittyFeed are here to show you how it is done.

1. The idea

First and foremost, someone needs to have an idea for a movie. This can be done by either observing everyday life or by observing other movies. And that is how most Punjabi movies start out – with some guy watching another movie and thinking: “Why don’t we do this?”

2. The Execution

The idea will then be presented to other people who will see if it is worth doing or not. If they think it is worth doing, they will start working on it right away! And that’s how a Punjabi movie gets made!

3. The Plot

After the basic plot structure is decided upon, they need actors who can pull off the roles of the characters they have written down in their minds.

Why Do Punjabi Movies Cost So Much

Two factors are responsible for the high cost of Punjabi movies. First, the stars earn as much if not more than their Hindi counterparts. Secondly, the production costs have gone up because of the expensive technology and equipment needed to make a movie.

Punjabi actors have begun to demand big money for their films. A popular actor like Diljit Dosanjh can charge up to Rs 5 crore for a movie. Meanwhile, a second rung actor can easily pocket Rs 1-2 crore.

Even an unknown actor or a debutante is paid at least Rs 10-15 lakhs for acting in a Punjabi movie. Popular actresses like Neeru Bajwa and Surveen Chawla can earn Rs 2-3 crore per film.

The production quality of Punjabi movies has improved in the past year due to expensive technology and equipment being used in filmmaking. In 2016, several Punjabi movies were shot in international locations including Canada and America.
