Everything finally seems to be going right for Todd. He is basically living life as Todd 2.0. He’s fixed up his house, he’s coming into his own as an artist, and he has a new ghoulfriend who lives in his attic. What could go wrong? Believe us, Todd is about to find out. And a few literal skeletons in his closets might be the least of his worries. You’d be crazy to not read (and also maybe to keep reading) this last chapter of the comic that leaps over the bounds and boundaries of comic book storytelling!

Well bravo for this issue. This didn’t go the way I had thought it would go and that I was able to be so completely and utterly surprised by the turn of events well I’m pretty damn impressed. Honestly I thought I had it all figured out and I didnt’ so yeah this was amazingly well thought out and executed. I was also a tad disappointed that we didn’t really see that much gore and anger as I thought there would be either. Can’t have it all but damn what a fun interesting issue this turned out to be.

I am enjoying the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well. The character development that we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter keeps their changing personalities at the forefront. The pacing is excellent and as it takes us through the pages revealing the story it takes us through the twisted labyrinth that is this house.

I like how we see this being structured as well as how the layers within the story continue to emerge, grow, evolve and strengthen. How we see these layers open up avenues to be explored and how we see them add this depth, dimension and complexity to the story are added extremely well. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how we see it move the story forward is exceedingly well achieved.

The interiors here have remained consistent throughout the series and the linework is clean, crisp and sharp. With its varying weights and techniques being utilised to create the detail within the work that we see has been marvellously rendered. The creativity and imagination on display is so well conceived and our ghostly woman is a prime example of this. The use of backgrounds throughout while could be stronger does enhance and expand the moments nicely. How they work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story is fantastic. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a superb eye for storytelling. The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows a good solid understanding of how colour works.

This has been a creepy tale with a much different ending than I was expecting. It fits the season, it is nearly Halloween, nicely and really this is the kind of story I would like to see more of, multiple issues and some exceptional surprises throughout. This is a strong offering from Zenescope thanks to the writing, characterisation and the interior artwork.
