My Review of "You're So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah"

This was a surprisingly fun family film that I think anyone could enjoy.

You're So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah is an exclusive comedy streaming from Netflix. I have to be honest I didn't actually want to see this movie. There was a whole bunch of buzz from people telling me that it was a good movie and I had to give it a try. Thankfully they did because I was pleasantly surprised and truly felt joy while watching this movie.

The movie starts off with the introduction to our main protagonist Stacy. She narrates the whole movie in her own point of view. With this narration she explains the many traditional rituals around the world that play out when people come of age into adulthood. In her case she is having a Bat Mitzvah which is a coming of age ritual for people of Jewish faith.

It's a ritual her and her best friend Lydia have been waiting for all their lives. Lydia and her have been best friends since they were toddlers and they're pretty much inseparable. As you know, when we grow up we start to develop selfish tendencies. Now our two girls are at an age when they're starting to grow romantic interests.

Namely a popular boy named Andy. A guy that Stacy has been very interested in. Stacy doesn't recognize her commanding presence and ignores the opinions around her and in a way this ignorance starts a rift between her and her best friend. Due to this rift Lydia starts to gain attention from the cool kids and jealousy soon strikes.

This movie then goes from zero to a hundred real fast. It's fun because there is a lot of outlandish goofy stuff going around while still remaining grounded with the core characters. Although Stacy's antics may seem a little wild and crazy there is still an air of believability that someone her age nowadays would truly do the things that she attempts to do. This kind of gives it a very realistic feel despite the crazy circumstances.

This also happens to be an Adam Sandler movie so the goofiness still hits with his signature comedy. They still make fun of cliche characters and satirizes popular culture. Though it does have a nice modern feel to it with the problems of today's generation.

The movie is very wholesome. Despite the fact that Stacy is a horrible person in the very beginning, she somehow has a charisma that makes us still like her. I have to give credit to the cast for doing such a great job in making their characters so likeable. It's tough to do with such a young cast as well. They really knocked it out of the park with this one.

There's different types of laughs for this one. I thought this movie was pretty funny. Small simple things were making me laugh throughout this movie. They don't have humongous lead up laughs but a whole bunch of jabs that really get to you. There's even build up jokes like how they constantly screw around with the DJ that everyone loves.

It's also probably the first time I've ever seen an Adam Sandler movie with a female perspective. This is a really nice change of pace and I thought they did it in a way that was still approachable for everyone. It also explored the Jewish religion and culture which was pretty cool too.

Overall, I thought this movie was a really great surprise. For those out there that are just looking for a fun family comedy this is the movie to check out. It's got everything and will make you smile by the end of the movie. I had a great time with it so that's why I'm going to give it a 7.5 out of 10. Hopefully more of these movies continue to come out.
