My Review of "Sex Education: Season 3"

I never thought the quality of this show would sustain for so long. This show keeps coming up with twists that keep us wanting more.

Sex Education: Season 3 has come out recently and I couldn't wait for this season to begin. There's so much that's been happening to our beloved characters of this show. I needed to hear what happened to them. With the last season having me up in arms with so many crazy cliffhangers, this season seemed like it was going to take forever to come out.

There was so much that happened last season. Headmaster Groff is out of the picture after that crazy ordeal at the end of season 2. Unfortunately for him his wife Maureen has also decided to separate from him as well. Just to keep everyone up to date with all of the couples that were happening at the time; we have Adam and Eric finally getting together, Ola and Lily have hooked up, Isaac has become very friendly with Maeve and one of the biggest shockers, Otis hooked up with Ruby.

To make matters even crazier Otis' mother, Jean is having a baby with Ola's father, Jakob. The couple had broken up when Jakob discovers that Jean had an affair with her ex-husband while he was in town. Their family is very strained because of this on again off again romance.

It's one of the crazier storylines in the show because Otis and Ola have had a short relationship with each other and they're only children. Now they're going to be united as a family because of this new pregnancy.

Some of the best storylines were some of the unlikely relationships that were spurred on from season 2. Adam and Eric are complete opposites from one another. Adam being very reserved and just coming out as gay while Eric knows who he is and is trying to navigate his relationship. Even crazier is that Adam had been an extreme bully of Eric's back in season one. In this season there are some barriers and obstacles that get in the way. Each of these obstacles will only teach them about themselves. I love how we see each of these characters grow as individuals.

Isaac and Maeve is a complicated relationship as the relationship between them contains that huge lie that Isaac is holding back. Close to the end of season 2 he had deleted an important message on Maeve's phone. It was basically Otis spilling his guts in a heartfelt apology to Maeve. Since she never got the message she never responded to his apology. Throughout this season their relationship has been strained as result.

This brings us to Otis. I guess Otis kind of accepts (but not really) that his relationship with Maeve is over. In season 2 he ended up hooking up with Ruby. Up to season 2 we don't really see too much about Ruby. The only thing we know is she's a mean girl at school that hangs out with the cool kids. In this season we see a lot more of her real personality. She really opens up in this season and we really start to feel for her and understand where she's coming from. In some ways I started feeling for Ruby because I was really getting used to her being with Otis.

I'm always weary about these shows because the writing usually has its ups and downs but this season is starting to give me really high hopes for this franchise. Each episode had me at the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Although all of the antics that happen in this show are pretty crazy, they all end up as life lessons for each of the characters. Every season we see each one of the characters evolve as human beings.

It could be because the whole show revolves around their sexual activities. There's a sense of vulnerability with each of their problems. Despite the fact all of the characters are quite sexual there's a sense of innocence in everyone. It's like the old saying all we know is that we know nothing. They know of sex but the real mystery of the show is discovering love. The relationships with one another have various spectrums of love. It's like they're a big loving family that's there to watch after each other.

Overall, I really loved this season. There were a ton of great twists and turns that were very welcome. Honestly, I didn't think this show would be able to retain the high quality writing that it had in the last 2 seasons. I'm happy to report that they've proved me wrong and I have to give this season a 9 out of 10. There's a lot more self discovery in this season than in the others because we are familiar with the characters now. Each season will be adding a new layer to get to know the characters by.
