My Review of "Loki: Season One"

An unexpected addition to the Marvel universe turned out how I kind of expected.

Loki: Season One was probably one of the last character who I thought would get a TV series on Disney plus. Mainly because he's been a villain throughout the Marvel universe. Although his last few appearances in the Marvel movies he was starting to warm up to Thor and seemed like he had a good side.

This TV show starts off during the middle of the first Avengers movie, well sort of. During the Avengers: End Game movie the Avengers went back into time to collect the infinity stones to stop Thanos. In one of the scenes in that movie, the Avengers went back to the first Avengers movie. There they tried to steal the Tesseract from Loki. During the whole kerfuffle, Loki manages to free himself and exit creating an alternate time line.

That's pretty much when the TV series starts. With Loki changing the timeline he's hunted by the Time Variant Authority (TVA). After a few attempts they finally capture Loki and bring him to justice.

Of course we all start wondering how come Loki is being put on trial but not the Avengers? Well the only explanation for that is that the Avengers were supposed to go through time and he wasn't. It's not necessarily a great explanation but you have to go with it. Whenever there's some sort of time travel in TV or movies there is always a number of holes that they have to patch up. To keep the entertainment factor up you have to ignore some of the glaring issues and just go with it.

There is one TVA agent that warms up to Loki by the name of Mobius. He wants to use Loki to help him find a variant of himself. When they talk about variants they're talking about alternate universe version of Loki. With multiple universes there's multiple versions of ourselves.

This variant version of Loki is giving the TVA a hell of a time and they're trying to stop it. So the best way to stop a Loki is to use a Loki right? Pretty soon we discover who Loki's variant is and more layers of the TV show start to show themselves. The questions of who really are the TVA and what their true meaning is slowly revealed after each episode.

It's all quite entertaining while you watch it. I think it's mainly because of the Loki character and his variants. Since Loki is the character of mischief you never know whether you can trust him or not. The same goes for all of his variants. This aspect of the TV show kind of breaks the fourth wall because us as viewers don't know if we can trust what's going on or not. That whole premise makes the series all that much more enjoyable because nothing is what it seems and that works perfectly for a Loki series.

This is exactly what I would have expected with a Loki series. A TV series that is weird and keeps you guessing. Nothing is as it seems and it revels at being weird and unpredictable. Even the ending of the show was quite a twist because there is no way anyone would have guessed what was going to happen.

Still this is a series that's only 6 episodes long. It's quite a short series and they jammed so much content in there. I think some may watch this series over and over in order to catch all the nuances in each of the episodes. It's the type of show where they would put a ton of Easter eggs in scenes and you wouldn't even notice.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series. I just wished the conclusion of the first season would feel more complete. You'll see what I mean when you finish this season. Still it gives me a lot of promise and anticipation for the future of the series and the Marvel universe. I have to give this season a 7.5 out of 10. I can see how this season would transition toward the next big Marvel TV series, What If.
