My Review of "Loki: Season 2"

I'm glad fantasy/science fiction is getting popular again but can we finally get out of these multi-verse storylines?

Loki: Season 2 was released in 2023 and everyone is raving over it. I admit that I liked the first season, however I'm not totally a fan of this season. Granted if you really loved season one you will love this second season. It goes deeper into the multiverse storyline that the first season started up. I'm unfortunately not clever enough to keep up with all the craziness from one episode to the next.

The season starts off not long after the events if the first season. They've killed off the man who shall not be named. The TVA still exists but they now know the background behind their existence. All seems to be going well but it wouldn't be a new season if there weren't cracks in the armor.

After the events of the first season there is a bit of infighting within the TVA. I liked the fact that they start arguing about a person's choice to make their own decisions versus the TVA's godlike power of removing timelines. Who are the TVA to decide the lives of billions of people. Though they're trying to make this decision out of their own self preservation as well.

Some of the TVA still believe that they still need to eliminate these growing timelines to keep the preservation of the universe that they know. There's a lot of philosophical talk about this and the whole first half is about this. The second half of the season explores Loki's tough decision of how he's going to save the universe.

My issue with this season is the direction of how they explain everything to the viewers through examples of multi-verses. It can get quite confusing. There's this portion of the show where Loki is slipping through time and he's jumping from one universe and time to another. Creating even more chaos and confusion. I understand what they're trying to do.

Loki's time slipping is to help us as the audience understand Loki's disorientation while he's trying to navigate the multi-verse to figure out what is the best course of action. I know a lot of people love this aspect of this show but I'm a little burnt out with the multiverse direction. This is popping up in so many shows and movies that I've become so fatigued by it.

In a way I feel like using the multiverse is a lazy way for writers to get out of any hard situation. They have all the time and resources to figure out a solution and in the case of Loki centuries. Sure they use this in a comical way but multiverses never follow their own rules and always have huge holes in their logic. This show is no different.

I didn't feel the as much character growth or personality in this season as I did in the first season. They really focused a lot of the timeline-multiverse aspect of this show and it drove me nuts. At certain times my mind just checked out while watching this show. It went absolutely bonkers. That's not to say that this show isn't comprehensive. Everything does make sense but it does take a bit to understand what the heck is going on.

Again fans of the show will love it and I know a lot of people love this aspect of the show. I'm unfortunately in the minority of people that don't really like this. Stylistically it was beautiful as usual and there are genuine funny moments.

Overall, I appreciated what they did with this one as I can tell that there was a lot of preparation and planning involved with this. They had to take a lot of meticulous work to get this to work. Even though it works for a lot of people out there, it didn't work for me. I had an okay time but really I didn't want to continue on the ride. It's just not my type of thing I guess. That's why I have to give this season a 6 out of 10. I'm hoping that this is actually the final season of this series.
