My Review of "Jurassic World Dominion"

It's a fun mindless summer popcorn movie. Throw your logic out the window to enjoy this.

Jurassic World Dominion has finally come out in 2022. I've never been a huge Jurassic park fan but I do enjoy watching them at least once. What's not to like about giant kaiju's fighting one another? Well... for one thing you kind of have to have a comprehensible story to keep it interesting.

This movie starts off with a chilling recap of what happened to the world after the previous movie. I wasn't a huge fan of the previous movie but the repercussions made some sense for this movie. Dinosaurs now roam the earth in somewhat of a non-harmonious kind of way. Obviously the eco system will take a big hit but they didn't really explore this.

Instead they go into a story about farmers. Apparently there are new prehistoric hybrid locusts that are devastating crops around the world. It's pretty obvious which company is causing this issue but in this movie they need concrete proof it's them.

This is where the old Jurassic Park franchise crew comes into play. They all get together to help Ellie get the proof she needs to nail down this biological tech giant. It's kind of funny because they depict the biological tech giant CEO to look almost exactly the same as Tim Cooke the CEO of Apple.

Meanwhile to get back to on board the Jurassic World franchise. We learn that after the events of the previous movie Claire and Owen have taken in the clone girl, Maisie. The two are very much in love and they treat Maisie as their daughter. Of course they're overprotective of her as the biological tech giant is desperately looking for her.

It doesn't take much for you to understand how the two parties will eventually collide and work together to take down the big bad company. You have all your usual dinosaur tropes and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The action for this movie are pretty top notch. I had a great time watching all of these action scenes and they were pretty clear. Often there's too much chaos or it's too dark to see what's going on and that's not the case in this movie. They knew exactly how to up the tension in each of the scenes.

Although some might not really get into it simply because you know all of the characters are safe. You know nobody dies at the end so there's no real investment into each of the close to death scene. That's why I have to tell you to throw your logic out the window to enjoy this one.

There's crazy stuff here that doesn't make sense but you're watching a movie about dinosaurs. Everyone that lives in cold places will laugh when they see a big plane crash scene. It's funny because Owen will get out of the plane unscathed and then fall into ice water, escape a dinosaur and easily swim out of the ice water to safety. At the end of the scene it's as if he got out of a shower. Very unrealistic but if you don't think about it you can enjoy it as if you enjoy cartoons. That's really what most of this movie is.

This movie is aware of itself as well. They make a lot of funny jokes throughout the movie about things people make fun of the series for. There are some call back jokes based on memes from the original Jurassic Park and the same goes for Jurassic World. If you've seen all of the franchise movies I'm sure you'll catch on to a lot of these jokes.

I was kind of turned off at their attempt at diversity in this movie. There's obviously no diversity in all of the Jurassic movies but in this movie they try to hammer in that they're diverse. They add two new characters of color into movie as key characters to save the day.

One of the big groaner scene was Malcolm giving this great big speech. While he's making this speech about the audience being leaders they have some pretty long close up to the audience and they're all minorities. They really wanted to hammer this into our heads as the audience. I don't mind it but don't make it super obvious what you're trying to do.

Overall, despite all the problems with this movie it is a dumb summer popcorn movie. If you're looking for some action it's there. I still liked this movie better than their last outing. I have to give this movie a 7 out of 10. It is fun if you're in the right mindset to watch it.
