My Review of "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition)"

This totally changes my perspective of the Batman V Superman movie. Everything makes much more sense.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition) came out a few months after the original movie release of the theatrical version. It's too bad because this version fixes a lot of the issues I had with the original theatrical release. Here you have a much more coherent story and a lot more character development that was sorely missed in the original.

This movie starts off with the origins of Batman and the catalyst that created his crime fighting career. He's now a middle aged crime fighter. Now that he's such a seasoned vigilante his perspective of Gotham's crime is a lot different. He pretty much has no optimism for criminals to reform themselves.

Despite this he continues to clean up the city of Gotham from the waves of criminals that haunts its streets. There's a lot of controversy with Batman. There are a lot that like him and then there's a ton more that are afraid of him. This movie really does a good job at creating the haunting appearance of Batman. His presence really is creepy and intimidating at the same time.

After the events of the movie Man of Steel. Batman is now aware of Superman an alien from another planet that has unearthly powerful abilities. In that movie he and Zod had toppled buildings and pretty much destroyed Metropolis. A lot of the buildings that included those owned by Bruce Wayne (Batman's alter ego). Family is very important to Bruce so when he kills a ton of his employees, he took it personal.

Then there's obviously the Superman side of the story. He is simply trying to do the right thing. Unfortunately doing the right thing around the world isn't quite so simple. There's world politics involved and having someone as powerful as him running free scares a lot of people.

Thankfully, Superman has a loving support group with his girlfriend Lois and his adoptive mother Martha. He loves them so much that he's willing to do anything to keep them safe. That's where things get a bit dicey.

Lois is a reporter and has a big scoop in Africa. When things go incredibly wrong Superman decides to save Lois but unknowingly falls into some sort of political trap. Being a top notch reporter Lois has suspicions that there might be more story than she had thought. She starts to investigate the situation to reveal why he was tricked.

This movie doesn't really delineate from the story of the theatrical release like Zack Snyder's Justice League. That's basically the movie that had me curious about this movie. What this version does do well is explain the story a lot better. I remember watching the original theatrical version and being confused. The reason why I was confused was because they had cut out a lot of crucial scenes that had things make sense.

In this version, we have a better idea at how Lex Luthor had methodically planned everything out. I got a better sense of how diabolical Lex was than the original version. Lex used to just seem like an insane psychopath but in this version you realize he's a genius psychopath. He's that much more scary and feels like a really badass villain.

The way he is able to manipulate the minds of everyone is amazing in this version. I think with the insight from Zack Snyder's Justice League, I was able to absorb this movie even further. There are a lot of things that make a little more sense as you watch this because they come back in the Justice League movie. Even the dream sequence makes a lot more sense than when I first saw them.

I like the way they were able to build upon the characters a lot more in this one and everyone has a bigger role in the story. The action sequences are of course very impressive but this version will have you appreciate the story telling a lot more. It is quite long though. I see how not everyone would be willing to watch this movie as it is a little longer than 3 and a half hours.

Overall, I'm not a die hard Batman or Superman fan but even I have to admit that this is a much better version than the original theatrical release. If you liked Man of Steel or Zack Snyder's Justice League you have to watch this movie. Although it will make you a little sad that they won't be continuing with this DC universe anymore. I have to give this version of the movie an 8 out of 10. For those of you that didn't like the theatrical version try this one out. Maybe your opinion may sway.
