My Review of "All My Life"

If it wasn't based on a true story I would have questioned some of the things in this movie.

All My Life is a romance movie based on a true story. It was released back in 2020 but the events happened around 2015 so everything is relatively recent. I think a lot of people will be enticed to watched this based on the charisma of the actors in this movie but the movie hopes you stay there for the story.

The main character in this movie is a character named Jenn. She's a really good person in general. I can't find any faults with her at all. It's kind of weird seeing a character like this nowadays in movies because we always have to see some sort of issue with our main character. She's also got really great friends.

A lot of this movie really has no fault in a lot of the characters. In some ways I felt like they were sugar coating a lot of the story because of this. There's no way these characters are all such perfect people. They're all good looking with great physique. It's sort of like watching a CW television series.

Jenn and her friends go to a local bar for some drinks and a group of guys approach them. They make with the idle chitchat to break the ice and there comes this guy named Sol that Jenn is instantly enamored by. This very much feels like a love at first sight situation. Jenn approaches it a little differently than most female protagonist in romance movies. She's mainly the driver in the conversation and leads the way.

The two fall instantly in love and I feel like the pacing of this romance is a bit too fast paced. These kind of movies kind of go at a frantic pace to establish their relationship to get on with the main issue of the story.

Their first date is actually pretty funny. They've been jogging for miles and yet they have perfectly coiffed hair and no sweat at all when they reach their destination. Everything is pristine and perfect. That's kind of a recurring thing that happens in this movie. A ton of the scenes are filmed to look Instagram like. They have filters to make them look even more beautiful and exciting than they really should be.

It takes a while to happen but the main plot twist is kind of spoiled in the trailer and the description of the movie. Sol eventually finds out he's got cancer. The two have to navigate this cancer together despite the odds.

I found that they didn't really explore the cancer situation that much. Although sol eventually has certain emotions that you would find genuine in cancer victims I felt that it was really glossed over. The main purpose of the glossing over is that they want the main theme of the movie to be about living your life to the fullest. This theme is repeated throughout this movie a few times.

Yes we don't know how long we have in this world and yes we should take advantage of what we have. Still there's a part of me that thought about how privileged these individuals were. Their friends and family are well off and have a ton of influence. Not everyone is as lucky as them to pull off some of the things that they did.

That's not to take away from the positive messages that this movie is trying to deliver. Still some people may watch this movie with a jaded view. At times it can get a little corny but it comes with the territory with these types of movies. You can't fault them on that.

They come for your heartstrings closer to the end with some of the call back conversations that they had in the past and for the most part they did a good job. This get even more serious when they do a montage of the real couple that this movie is based off of. I then got a sense that some of the things that happened in the movie actually happened in real life.

Overall, I thought this movie is an okay time. You may roll your eyes at some points but if you're into romance movies and can shut your brain off this movie will be perfectly adequate. It's by no means a terrible movie but there are better out there. I have to give this movie a 5.5 out of 10. Only die hard romance movie fans need apply. All others can skip it.
