Moon Knight

Episode 1

The first episode of Moon Knight dropped this week and it has been a much anticipated drop for many. For me, I am excited for the MCU to dive into something a bit deeper as far as mental health goes and I will always be excited for a project including Oscar Isaac.

The music choice is already amazing and very much reminds me of Deadpool and how it poses serious scenes or fight scenes against light and upbeat music, tonally I think the music did an amazing job of lending to the chaos of the story.

Cinematography is AMAZING, from the first shot to the very end I think the cinematography captured several different styles that were nods to a few different genres but it wasn’t done in a way that was jarring, everything was very cohesive.

We start seeing the effect of his DID immediately, with Steven being very confused as he stumbles through his life. We see the effects of him having multiple personalities even if we haven’t fully seen those other personalities yet.

I absolutely love how they incorporated Egyptian gods into the story, perfectly set up.

We meet Steven Grant first, and later meet Marc, who knows if we’re going to see Jake, in comics it's one thing but managing the writing and acting of 3 personalities on screen and doing it well is asking a lot and even in the source material Jake is less relevant then Steven and Marc so if we stick with these two for a while then I will be more than fine with that.

The instant imagery of the moon is so so good, it's kind of subtle but also very clear and not overbearing so that it doesn’t confuse viewers with no knowledge of the source material.

Steven clearly knows that something is going on with him, as he takes several measures to track and restrict his movements as well as trying to stay awake as that seems to be when the personality transitions happen

It seems that we have jumped right into the story as in we see Steven battling the transition to Marc (who is Moon Knight)

At this moment we are only seeing through Steven’s perspective which was a very specific choice that I don’t think they can keep up the whole time but I think it's a great way to highlight his disorder and how it affects him.

Oscar Isaac is freaking phenomenal, hes so sweet and innocent and by showing Steven’s perspective first I really think it helps you get emotionally attached to his character, it also inspires a level of intrigue because obviously everyone wants to see Moon Knight, you want to see the vigilante and the fighting but what I love about this Disney+ shows is that they get you emotionally involved first and then give you the action later.

The way this show is shot is very, scary movie/thriller and it is so brilliant certain shots really reminded me of the shining, it's so wonderful and very distinctive for the Disney+ shows

This is very different contextually and style wise from anything Marvel’s ever done before.

The scene in the Museum when Steven is confronted with what is happening to him is so well written because he is unraveling, he truly doesn't understand what is happening to him, his body is buckling from exhaustion and he is so isolated and alone.

The way they’ve set up the story is very interesting in that the initial conflict seems to be Gods battling it out with each other through their avatars

ANNND Moon Knight….

Overall I think it was a brilliant first episode, I think the set up was done very well while keeping it interesting and non-expositional. I really can’t wait to see where this goes but the first episode was pretty close to perfect.
