We just met and you already want to marry me?

Marry Me proposed to theaters in 2022. Kat Valdez, A successful singer finds out moments before her big concert that Bastian is cheating on her. Instead, she picks Charlie from a sea of her thousands of fans to marry.

I had Marry Me all wrong. I was smiling throughout the entire movie. We need more feel-good movies like this, especially after the rough last couple of years we’ve had. Marry Me is more than its premise. Never underestimate love and don’t weigh yourself down on obstacles.

The chemistry between Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson is the best part of the film. All of their interactions were so cute. I did not believe there was going to be a genuine relationship between them. Going on little adventures, enjoying fun conversations, and even helping one another with insecurities cements their dynamic.

Acting, singing, dancing, and even sustaining a hip injury from wearing the 95-pound wedding dress, Lopez was outstanding. Marry Me was her first film where Lopez sang live.

I really like what she did with this character. Kat likes to make the world happy with her music. My favorite moment was when she gave Charlie’s class a dance lesson. Kat doesn’t leave anyone out. That is a great representation of anyone who is a performer.

Wilson is always funny with his trademark sense of humor. As a math teacher, you’d never think to see him at a concert. Charlie has a tough time opening up because he hasn’t had his luck with love. Wanting to be a better parent, he learns from Kat’s confidence.

Ensemble dictates a memorable story. Most viewers have differing opinions about Sarah Silverman. She has her own humor. I enjoyed all her funny moments. Parker always supports Charlie. Friends will always be here.

Other credits include the debut of Malumba, John Bradley, Michelle Buteau, Khali Middleton, Katrina Cunningham, and a whole ensemble of dancers and kid actors in school scenes. Lopez’s son Max Muniz appears in the school scenes. And I cannot forget to mention Charlie’s dog who has a varying opinion about his walks.

There could have been a stronger side story with Charlie and his daughter, Lou (Chloe Coleman). No conflict evolves until the climax. The story’s main focus is Kat and Charlie. I would have given more time to develop Lou so she could have been involved in the story more.

From what critics have said, Marry Me felt was a promotion of Lopez’s music career. Yes, I agree, but arguably it is the best part of the film. I felt like I was at a concert. Her work is also an example to anyone who is curious about a music career. As I mentioned, this film is directed to everyone no matter what their skill set is.

Costumes, hair, and makeup had a strong hand in this film. It’s a gorgeous film to look at. Lopez chose most of her character's attire. Kat’s costumes were designed by Zuhair Murad.

Kat Coiro’s best focus was on the relationship between Charlie and Kat. Coiro instilled that each segment and theme of Marry Me deserved its rightful focus. The music sequences could have been trimmed down some. Nevertheless, it’s a sweet film that we all needed.

The message entails that nobody should be afraid of love. Share a laugh, learn what you have in common, and share advice. Take a step out of your comfort zone to try new things.

Whether in theaters or streaming on Peacock, give Marry Me a chance. It’s a feel-good movie.
