Lyrical Logan

So the mind has a musical side

Logan was very casual when writing in his notebook while everyone else was having lunch. While everyone else was eating, and Patton was wondering if his hero was ever going to take a bite, Remus rushed over to Logan out of curiosity, and snatched his notebook from underneath him.

"Oh my, you're writing a song? I'd expect someone like you to grammar check Facebook posts and stroke it to your success," the Duke declared, surprising everyone.

Logan snatched his notebook back, and though he did his best to keep a straight face (yea, right), Virgil knew that he was upset and didn't want to bring attention to it.

"And I thought you'd be in New York as Oscar the Grouch's understudy. Why don't you go drink Chicken Permission on the way there?" Virgil retorted.

"Um, isn't it 'chicken parmesan'?" the nerd asked.

"Well, thanks to Gavagan, yes and no," Virgil told him.

The emo looked up episode 105 of "Why Would You Put That On The Internet" on his phone, and skipped to the part about "Chicken Permission" to show Logan. After some time cringing, Logan saw Remus make a perfume bottle with a picture of a chicken on it appear in his hand, and the Duke proceeded to drink from it before leaving. As disturbed as Logan was, he was at least glad that the attention was taken away from him writing a song.

Later on, after dealing with a dilemma Thomas was going through, Logan went back to his room, and did some writing in his notebook before going to his dresser and pulling out a guitar ever so delicately. He sat on his bed, and kept the guitar on his lap while looking at his opened notebook. He tapped on the guitar to get a good idea of a rhythm before strumming some chords softly.

"Back to the future, using science to go

Back to the future to go away from memories we don't want to know," he sung softly.

After feeling satisfied enough to continue strumming, Logan went to another page in his notebook, and tapped his guitar again to get his rhythm back.

"Back to the future, using science to go

Back to the future, we're going to let the entire world know."

Before Logan could over think his lyrics, he heard a knock at the door. The nerd set his guitar aside and answered the door to see his familiar purple-covered companion.

"Ah, Virgil, what brings you here?" Logan asked.

"Um, I know it's not something you'd want someone asking you directly, but... about earlier..." Virgil asked.

Logan sighed and looked around.

"I trust you to not make a big deal out of it. If I show you something, will you promise to not tell anyone else until I find time to do so?"

"Oh, I promise. Besides, considering how Patton and Roman might get, it's completely understandable."

Logan let Virgil inside, and cleared his nearby desk with the knowledge of Virgil preferring to sit on what wasn't a chair. Virgil sat on the desk and looked at the guitar.

"Mental exercise?" Virgil asked while pointing to the guitar.

"Music can help improve the brain and can also help with anxiety," Logan explained.

The nerd looked through his notebook for a little while and said "Creativity is not my department, so if I don't sound great, that probably contributes to it."

Logan took a deep breath and started to play some chords on the guitar. Eventually, he reminded himself someone else was in his room and decided against muttering.

"We landed in a semi-familiar place.

Landed in this place without a trace.

By some people, we were being abused.

Of being crazy, we were being accused.

We've got to go back to the future.

Using science to go

Back to the future.

We are not crazy, we will show."

Virgil could tell that Logan went down the route of singing a song where the topic was something he enjoyed. Not only that, even though he heard Logan sing during their Christmas caroling fiasco, the emo was still amazed by it.

"If we try to see our past selves, well son of a gun,

It will ruin the universe for everyone.

You would talk to your past self if you're really dumb

Enough to ruin the space-time continuum.

We've got to go back to the future.

Using science to go

Back to the future

To go away from memories we don't want to know."

Virgil couldn't help but stifle a chuckle. As someone who tends to over think as well, he understood that it wouldn't exactly be something Logan made without thinking a little too much into something that's more on the fictional side.

"We need to work hard fast

And if we get stuck,

We need some memories

And a bit of luck, yea."

Virgil found himself wishing that he pulled out his phone so he could record Logan, not for blackmail purposes, but for the satisfaction that Logan trusts him enough to show him something he didn't initially consider sharing. Since beggars can't be choosers, though, he was content that he was at least able to experience the small performance then and there.

"So we can go back to the future.

Using science to go

Back to the future

So that we can find our way home;

Back to the future.

Using science to go

Back to the future

We're going to let the entire world know."

After the last moment of strumming, Logan opened his eyes so he could look at Virgil.

"Any constructive criticism is welcome, Virgil," he proclaimed when the room became too silent for his liking.

"I'd just like to share that, for someone would rather read The Martian than fokin' fairy tales, that was actually impressive," Virgil responded.

"So... it's not too... over-analytical?"

"It's the right amount to show that you wrote it. But, you clearly enjoying it actually felt more... I think 'authentic' might be the word I'm looking for."

Logan looked down and gave a half smile, clearly showing that he felt proud of himself. Virgil hummed the song on the way to his room, and felt eager for Logan about the idea of Thomas finding out.
