Robert Gossett's son has passed away

General Hospital has been dealing with controversy since Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), and Ingo Rademaker (Jasper Jacks), and two crew members were fired at the end of 2021. They each refused the Covid-19 vaccine due to religious reasons. Beginning in 2022 many cast members were off-screen or had recasts because they had been diagnosed with Covid or were having surgery. I lost count after 14 cast members were involved. Death has also rocked the GH cast and the latest is Luke Gossett son of Robert Gossett who plays Marshal Ashford.

A Soaps.com message board recently emphasized the tragedies that have happened to the cast of General Hospital and their families. One of them that I had not heard about is the death by suicide of Luke Gossett the son of Robert Gossett (Marshall Ashford). Robert is the cousin of acting legend Louis Gossett Jr.

Hollywood LA News reported that 24-year-old Gossett died by his own hand on November 30. Additional details about what happened were not given but the article mentioned that marijuana use increases sucidal thoughts, ideation, and plans. In addition to his father, Luke is survived his mother Michele Gossett, and a brother Caleb Gossett. I was stunned to just see thsi in January because with other GH cast the news was not only on soap spoilers like Soap Opera Digest, Soaps in Depth, and Soaps She Knows but also reported by Deadline, TV Line, People, TMZ, and other news outlets.

General Hospital cast has been in constant mourning

The news of Luke Gossett's death was not announced across news media and social media the same way as the death of Eden McCoy's (Josslyn Jacks) mother Natasha who died on November 6th (per Soaps.com). Eden is currently off-screen for bereavement leave until February but Gossett is still portraying Marshall. Nothing has been mentioned about his taking time off so perhaps he wants to mourn privately and just keep working.

The General Hospital cast has also mourned the deaths of Sonya Eddie (Epiphany Johnson), Jackie Zeman (Bobbie Spencer), Tyler Christopher (Nikolas Cassadine), Billy Miller (Drew Cain), and Harrison Wagoner the son of Jack Wagoner ( Frisco Jones) and Kristina Wagoner (Felicia Scorpio).

Is General Hospital under a curse?

Life happens but it seems to be happening to the General Hospital cast more than those of The Young and the Restless, Days of Our Lives, and The Bold and the Beautiful. In addition to those who had COVID-19 (Some more than once) Nancy Lee Grahan (Alexis Davis) had back surgery, Charles Shaughnessy (Victor Cassadine) had a hip replacement and Robin Mattson (former Heather Webber) had both knees replaced. Joshua Benard (Adam Wright) broke his back when he fell off of a rock climbing wall.

There is also Leslie Charleson who was absent from her role as Monica Quartermaine for 23 months and who recently returned but was in a wheelchair. No explanation for her almost 2 year absence was given but fans can tell she has been sick. All the calamities began shortly after General Hospital fired Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), Ingo Rademacher (Jasper Jacks), and crew members father and son James and Timothy Wahl.

Some fans have said GH was under a curse but with the rehiring of Burton recently we shall see if the tragedies let up or stop. Rademacher's suit which was based on religious beliefs was thrown out of court because he did not have an established religion. His beliefs were from a book he read. There has been no news regarding the Wahls as to whether or not they won or lost in court.

General Hospital continues to move forward

Despite all of the off-camera challenges General Hospital has been putting out great drama and recently had a Prime Time television special to celebrate 60 years. Also on-screen it looks like Marshal Ashford might begin a romance with his former sister-in-law Stella Henry (Vernee Watson). Belated condolences to Robert Gossett and his family on the death of Luke Gossett.
