SPECIAL DOUBLE-SIZED ISSUE!

The next chapter in 2021's Netflix global phenomenon begins here as MARK MILLAR returns for the sequel to one of his most critically acclaimed series. Chloe and Hutch have gotten married and had more children. The superheroes are working in harmony with humanity and creating a perfect world. But all is not well in the Garden of Eden as the Sampson family gets ripped apart and the secrets of the Netflix show's mysterious island begin to be revealed. Order big, as this will be a juggernaut!

Oh how I’ve missed reading and reviewing Mark’s stories. I’d also forgotten just how good this series was. Right away with the opening we see how much alike and yet how worlds apart these kids are or were from their parents in personality. I mean they are very much a modern love em and divorce set of kids and I find it interesting how we see their relationship with their mother and how nonexistent their relationship with their father is. Here’s the thing Mark is such an amazing writer that mere pages into this book and already my mind is engaged in ways that take me through my own thoughts and beliefs as well as remembering how the original series went.

I am a huge fan of the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exquisitely. The character development through the narration, the dialogue, the character interaction, the monologue of the big threat and how they act and react to the situations and circumstances that they encounter continue to flesh them out and have them evolve is utterly brilliant. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing the story and introducing us the cast of characters is magnificently rendered.

How we see this being structured and how the layers within the story emerge, grow and evolve as new characters and situations arise really add this extra depth and complexity to way the story is told. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is achieved with aplomb.

The interiors here are absolutely bloody gorgeous! The linework is phenomenal and how we see the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create this level of quality in the detail work is astonishingly well rendered. The prevalent use of backgrounds throughout not only enhance the moments but do wonders in bringing us depth perception, a sense of scale and that overall sense of size and scope to the story. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a masterful eye for storytelling. The colour work is bloody brilliant as well. How we see the various hues and tones within the colours are being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work show a master colourist at work. Plus seeing multiple techniques being used to lay the colour down is magnificently rendered as well.

What we see here and how we see it is so well thought out, crafted and executed so that the reader is immersed in this world again that’s more full of Supers than it ever has been before. With secrets revealed and new threats on the horizon as well as poor decision making and the folly of youth rearing its ugly head what we are going to see throughout this story if the ending is any indication is going to be the beginning of the end for this stage in human evolution. I’m a firm believer that a series shouldn’t continue unless the story is going to be as strong and interesting as the ones that came before it. There never is a doubt when it comes to Mark, his ideas and how he’s able to bring that to the page and this my friends is how you continue a story that began with and left us with something of an open ending.
