Jack Whitehall At Large Review

Not the best, but still great

Have you ever seen a stand up comic and thought 'huh, I bet they're not that funny if you really know them'? Yeah, you definitely won't think that with Jack Whitehall.

Here is a comedian who is both fabulous and a complete wreck, I want to listen to his jokes every day.

You may recognize him from Disney's The Jungle Cruise where he starred opposite Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in a surprisingly good film version of the famous Disney Ride.

On Netflix, Jack Whitehall has several specials available along with some kind of road show deal with his father, who I was shocked to see in the audience of the 'At Large' special because if you know anything about Jack, this is not the man I would have pegged was his father. Very Oxford looking man who raised a man making a living off of dick pic jokes.

You do learn some things about English Culture during this comedy special, for example: Did you know that children in England leave out Sherry and alcohol for Santa instead of Milk and Cookies?

The More You Know!

From talking about borderline dangerous alcoholism at a McDonalds with the future of McQuinoa to disappointed Disney voice over dreams. Jack truly is a comedian of unique transitions, and the transitions make sense which I think makes him a witch.

Have you ever seen a comedian that can't handle transitions between jokes?

As much as I love Kevin Hart he is guilty of bad transitions, he goes from talking about his kids to getting a blowjob from his wife that makes her mouth go numb. Not because he's working her like a two-bit toothless Philadelphia hooker, but because he had numbing cream on his dick, then goes back to a story about a raccoon that's been hanging around his background going 'bang bang' then grabbing its dick to disappear into the darkness. There is barely any rhyme or reason to the relationship of one joke to another.

Speaking of bad transitions, Jack talks about every pot smokers worst nightmare; getting caught.

One of his best bits in this special is about how he was in Amsterdam with his mates and he gets pressured into smoking a joint.

And then gets photographed by the bloody Google Maps car with the 360 camera.

He also has this story about a burly friend who was almost assassinated by the Royal Family Security Guards.

THAT is the one you want to watch this special for, I swear to god.

I will say that Netflix Comedy Specials are hit or miss, most of them are pretty bad. Like really bad, makes you wonder if they have some kind of quota to hit every year for these specials. It feels like they just grab some poor sod at the nearest comedy club and put a camera in their face and shout "TELL A JOKE OR WE'LL ADD COMMERCIALS!"

Fortunately, Jack Whitehall does not have that aura to him. He is a genuine comedian and actor with big credits like the Shawshank Redemption, Frozen, and Harry Potter. When you watch the special he will go over them.

This is a comedian who has clearly worked out most of these jokes, but he still stumbles and makes mistakes while on stage, and maybe their scripted but when you see him stutter through a joke while holding back tears of laughter, you can't help but relate to this English String Bean of Fun.

I highly recommend Jack Whitehall everything. His comedy specials At Large nd I'm Just Joking and his weird show 'Travels with my Father'. An odd show but if you've ever taken a trip with your parents, you will definitely relate to most of what they go through. Well, the verbal sparring is relateable, don't know about you but I don't think trekking across Thailand on a sliding metal board with wheels that I'd have to disassemble with a man named Puppet who looks like the opposite of a person who would choose to be named Puppet is something that I could ever talk my parents into ever doing.
