Halloween Double Feature

Reminiscing the fond memories of Halloween parties in school and highlighting my favorite candies

By Mark Wesley Pritchard Published 2 days ago • 3 min read

Every October in elementary school, I've always looked forward to the Halloween party in class. Each one of us had a bag full of goodies and also had yummy treats. I grew up in the 1990s and despite my love for this holiday, my parents refused to let me, or my youngest siblings dress up. The ridiculous and laughable reason they told us back then was that because they "didn't believe in it" due to their religious beliefs. I never understood what their beliefs had to do with us wanting to be in costume. Having Halloween parties at school? Acceptable. Wanting to dress up for the special day and go trick-or-treating with the other children? Not a chance in hell. It was the double standard made by our parents that prevented us from experiencing that one part of our childhoods. Besides, you could only have one childhood. Fast forward to 2010 and I was attending Job Corps. On Halloween that year, which would be the first Halloween I celebrated as an adult, I went as Superman. There was a party at the gym, and we had a great time. To close out the evening, there was a Halloween costume contest, and cash prizes were awarded for first, second, and third place. Yours truly won the top prize, which was $50, while the others won $25 for second, and $15 for third. The victory was my very first costume contest win. Since then, I've dressed up for Halloween and have won five costume contests overall. I recently revealed my Halloween costume for this year. You can check out the full story of it in the link down below. 2026 will be my 17th year celebrating Halloween.

My Favorite Halloween Candies

Halloween is never complete without candy. I have an enormous sweet tooth and I'm here to share with everyone some of my favorite candies I like to consume on this spooky day.

Kit-Kat

I love chocolate and my top go-to candy on Halloween has to be Kit-Kat. There's something about it that gets me in the mood. Breaking off each piece and munching on them makes me indulge that chocolatey taste. Whether it's Fun Size or King Size, I eat these in solitude.

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

You might have read stories about this candy not tasting the way it used to be. Nevertheless, I love this delicious candy. Despite critics noticing the taste of it being different, I still purchase this.

Nestle Crunch

Introduced in 1938, this chocolate bar made of milk chocolate and crisped rice is something I look forward to eating every Halloween. There was a trend on TikTok back in 2019 where people used a clip from the Nestle Crunch ad to accompany videos of them something falling or hitting at the end. If you haven't seen them, go and check them out because they are hilarious. There's one video on YouTube Shorts of someone grabbing their cat at the end using the Nestle Crunch soundbite. It had me cracking up. Back to Nestle Crunch itself, it's so good and of course, crunchy. I prefer the Fun Size and that's fine with me.

Haribo Gummy Bears

Finally, let's talk about the candy I have at least two to three times a month. Whether it's Halloween or not, this treat is something I can consume on the go, at work, or at home. The price of a regular standard bag has increased significantly over the last two to three years. However, the bears are colorful and enjoyable to eat.
