Meet Giovanni who portrays Gio

Giovanni Mazza is the newest addition to General Hospital's cast. He is an American-Italian actor from the Midwest who expressed a love of music at an early age. The handsome actor portrays Gio Palmeri, the cousin of Brooklyn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton), who debuted at her wedding to Harrison Chase ( Josh Swickard). he is staying at the Quartermaine mansion which has its own drama so his summer will be entertaining.

Before his role in General Hospital, Mazza appeared in several television series, including Bella and the Bulldogs and Chicago Fire. He has appeared in numerous independent films, including Saving John Murphy and Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake), where his exceptional violin skills were displayed.

Gio has befriended Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Dex Heller (Evan Hofer), which may cause problems because of his "Uncle Sonny" Corinthos (Maurice Benard), who is paying for his education.

Gio and Trina equals Gina

Last week at General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) saw Gio coming out of the Metro Court pool., He looked a lot like Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chaves). Some fans have said Gio should have been a Spencer recast, but Chaves may reprise the role one day. Trina could fall for Gio only to have Spencer return to her life, but perhaps Chaves will not be coming back to GH.

Trina has been mourning Spencer since he was presumed dead in February. She's not interested in romance right now, so a summer fling may not be in the cards, but you never know. Gio will be attending PCU, so when Trina returns to school, they may see more of each other. Fans will be watching to see if there is a "Gina" in the making to replace "Sprina."

The players keep changing

The teen quartets on GH have changed a lot over the years. At first, there was Joss, Trina, Cameron Webber (Will Lipton), and Oscar Nero (Garren Stitt). Oscar died, and later, Joss and Cam began dating and became lovers. They were hanging out with Spencer, who was dating Esme Prince (Avery Pohl), until they all found out how evil she was. Joss later cheats on Cam with Dex, and Spencer resents him for breaking Cam's heart.

In time, Joss, Cam, Spencer, and Dex found a way to co-exist. Now it looks like Joss and Dex will be spending time with Truna and Gino if Sonny does not interfere. GH viewers may have noticed how Dex and Gio instantly took a liking to one another while Heller had conflict with Cam and Spencer.

Could Gio be staying in Port Charles?

Giovanni said the following about his character's encounter with Trina during an interview.

"My first and last encounter with Trina is when Josslyn introduces Gio to her," Mazza told Soap Opera Digest. "She is interested in who Gio is and wants to know more about him, just as he wants to know about her, and I think we'll develop a great connection on the show. I feel like so much could happen and blossom out of our relationship, and I'm excited to know where the story goes. As a show fan, I also want to know what will happen next!"

The actor is also excited that GH has written his violin playing into the script. It looks like the powers that be are going all out on this character.

Will Gio be a keeper, or will he be written out like Dev, Cam, and Oscar? Could he leave the show and not return as Nicholas Chaves did? There are no answers at this time so stay tuned.
