General Hospital fans say Phyllis is no Dear Abby

Phyllis Caulfield could become a stereotype

General Hospital fans are expressing that they are becoming annoyed at the direction the show is taking in regard to Phyllis Caulfield ( Joyce Guy). Viewers are hoping the ABC soap does not make her a stereotype of always being the listening ear and or the voice of reason for others on the ABC soap but otherwise having no pertinent role.

Since her husband Lenny Caulfied ( Riff Hutton) died Phyllis has been dispensing advice to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), and especially to Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros). Phyllis is careful to choose her words but is always direct and gets her point across. She recently gave Nina an ultimatum about Sonny and told her to stay away from him.

General Hospital fans speak out

Fans are saying that Nina is an adult and a business owner who runs a magazine so she should be capable of thinking for herself. Instead, she just stands there looking at her former nurse as if she is a child being scolded by a parent. General Hospital viewers are saying that Mrs. Caulfiled is no Dear Abby and should stop dispensing advice. It's normal on television and in movies for those who are behind a bar to listen to the woes of the people sitting on the barstool but Phyllis has no other role on the ABC soap except to give advice regarding what happened in Nixon Falls.

Some General Hospital viewers are wondering when Carly will figure out that the new manager of Charlie's was fully aware of what went down between Mike and Nina? Will Carly go after Phyllis and demand a pound of flesh because of Nixon Falls? Spoilers are teasing that some type of confrontation is coming at Charlie's and Carly will probably be in the middle of it.

If Guy's character is going to remain in Port Charles the writers should develop her and give her a life outside of being an ill-adviser. It may not be intentional and many viewers probably have not noticed but at times Epiphany Johnson (Sonya Edy) and Trina Robinson ( Sidney MaKayla) have been placed in the "Dear Abby" role as well. Nurse Johnson has given advice to most of Port Charles at one time or another over the years and she seems to be the go-to person whenever someone wants to vent.

General Hospital fans want to see change

Guy is not the only character in limbo on General Hospital. Sonya Edy as Epiphany has been on the show since 2006. She has no family or love interest and is shown working at the hospital 90% of the time. This is called Sidney Poitier Syndrome because early in his career the late actor never had a love interest or family in his film roles. He was on screen simply to support the other leading actors the films. Trina Robinson (Sydney Makayla ) is involved in several storylines but she also has turned into the go-to voice of wisdom.

Spencer Cassadine (Nikolas Chaves) is always crying on her shoulder as do his father and stepmother. It's pathetic that Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) who came from a mob family and Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) who is supposed to be a dark prince both run to Trina for advice. Since when does an 18-year-old girl just out of high school have the answers for two of the most corrupt residents of Port Charles? Nik even recently asked his wife's employee which piece of jewelry to give her as a gift.

Phyllis can't keep Nina from Sonny

Now we have Phyllis who is being written as a "know it all" but as one fan said she should have told Nina to stay away from Sonny while they were in Nixon Falls. Everything that she recently decided to convey came as too much too little too late. There is no point for Nurse Caulfield to lock the barn when the horse is off and running. Nina and Sonny are not going to stay away from each other because their feelings are too strong.

They did not consummate their love in Nixon Falls and everyone can see that this is where the situation is heading. Carly's fury in addition to Sonny's conflicting emotions are going to keep them apart although spoilers say they will bond over the news of the death of Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary). General Hospital fans are still split over which woman Sonny should be with but viewers can see the handwriting on the wall that says Carly will push her spouse right into the arms of the opposition.

Perhaps by the time Sonny and Nina figure it out, break up and he is back with Carly, Phyllis might have a man of her own to keep her busy. Marshall Ashford ( Robert Gossett) might be a good catch although he was giving Epiphany the eye on Christmas Eve.
