Has Kathleen Gati been axed by General Hospital?

Kathlene Gati is beloved by General Hospital fans in her role as Liesel Obrecht. Her German accent and her wicked way of dealing with her enemies along with her softer side made Obrecht fun to watch. GH viewers were thrilled when the actress was paired with Kin Shriner (Scott Baldwin) and loved the chemistry between the two. When Liesel returned from Greenland viewers thought she and Scott would rekindle the flame of love but Shriner announced that he had been written out of the ABC soap. Shriner has said something similar a few times in the past but always returned in a matter of months. This time perhaps it's final and now Gati is suggesting she may receive the same fate.

Obrecht was front and center during the Greenland storyline and provided the antidote that saved the life of Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stewart). When she returned to Port Charles and was the organ donor for her great niece Willow Tate (Katelynn MacMullen) fans thought Willow and her Aunt Liesel would become closer, but Gati has not been shown in several weeks.

The actress is very active on Twitter and chats with her fans on a regular basis. She recently tweeted that she would be heading to the East Coast in November and a fan asked about her General Hospital status. Gati replied with the following.

“I have no idea if and when I will be back on canvas,” Gati responded to a follower. “Life is full of surprises!”

What are the writers thinking?

Angry fans are wondering what the writers could be thinking if indeed they have axed both Gati and Shriner. Gati, 65, and Shriner 69 brought a mature love to the screen and viewers adored them. The duo was entertaining with their banter and viewers loved when Scott called Obrecht his "Schnitzel" and she said he was her "Liepshen." Gati's comment that "Life is full of surprises" sounds like the GH brass sprung her current situation on her. If the actress is going to the East Coast in November this suggests that she will not be on the soap for the rest of the year.

General Hospital fans are saying that the writers are not in tune with what the viewers enjoy and that getting rid of Scott and Liesl is a bad decision. With their exits, the ABC soap only has Jon Lindstrom (Kevin Collins) who is 65 and Genie Francis ( Laura Collins) 61 are the only older couple on the show. Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) is 60 and Cynthia Watros (Nina Reeves) is 55. Alley Mills (Heather (Webber) is 72 but is no longer on-screen. Jackie Zeman who portrayed Bobbir Spencer passed away a few months back at age 70 and Robert Gossey (Marshal Ashford) is 69.

This has happened before

General Hospital execs have angered fans in the past with the way they have treated popular characters. They were stunned when Emme Rylan was abruptly fired as Lulu Spencer and when William deVry's character Julian Jerome was killed off. Now it seems they are at it again. Kathleen Gati lit up the screen as Liesel Obrecht and she will be missed greatly. Kin Shriner had been with the show since 1977 and together they brought magic to the screen. Best of luck to the actress on the East Coast and perhaps one-day GH execs will realize their mistake and Scott and Liesel will return. Be on the lookout for updates related to Gati and Kin Shriner and what happens with Liesl and Scotty in Port Charles.
