Anthony Geary addresses the death of Jackie Zeman

Anthony Geary did not return to General Hospital as Luke Spencer as fans hoped he would and spoiler alerts had a field day projecting that his character was not really dead. The rumor mill said Luke would surface for the takedown of Victor Cassadine *Charles Shaughnessy) ignoring the fact the actor has said he is happily living in Amsterdam away from Hollywood, prying eyes, and gossip mongers.

For the second time in less than 5 months, however, Geary has broken his silence by speaking out regarding the death of a former castmate. The veteran actor shared his grief after the December death of Sonya Eddy who portrayed Epiphany Johnson and said she was a light that brightened up the room. Now, presumably from his home in Amsterdam, he has given a statement to TVline which Soaps in Depth is sharing on the death of his TV sibling Jackie Zeman who played Nurse Bobbie Spencer.

“For 40 years, I was fortunate enough to play Jackie Zeman’s big brother on GH,” the actor told TV Line. “In all those years, I never heard her utter one disparaging word about any actor, crew member, or co-worker. In fact, I never heard Jackie express an unkind word about anyone, ever. In a highly competitive profession where ego, feelings, and emotions are bread and butter, I’ve found this quality to be extremely rare. I expect it will be even more rare now that dear Jackie is gone.”

Luke and Bobbie understood each other

Lucas Lorenzo Spencer and Barbara Jean Spencer were siblings who grew up on the rough side of town in Port Charles but became eventually respected citizens although Luke had many shady dealings. Their love for each other was so strong and Bobbie even named her son Lucas Jones after her brother. Zeman joined the soap in 1977 and Geary came along in 1978. Soaps in Depth also shared the following from the soap icon who retired in 2015.

She was quite simply one of the kindest, sweetest people I have ever known,” Geary declared. “I will miss her laugh, the deep, soulful look in her eyes whenever she expressed the love and pride she had in her two lovely daughters. Tonight, I already miss her, and feel a powerful ache where Jackie’s smile used to be.”

Jackie Zeman's death shocked cast and fans

The General Hospital cast as well as the fans were stunned to hear that Jackie Zeman, 70 passed away after a short battle with cancer. Many viewers had said on social media they were hoping to hear something from Geary and now they have. GH seems to have closed the Luke Spencer chapter on the show by blowing up his boat The Haunted Star and having his ex-wife Laura Collins (Genie Francis) tell Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) that the chapter in her life with Luke and the Cassadines was finally over.

The finality of Luke not returning, the death of Victor, blowing up the Haunted Star, and the death of Jackie Zeman coming right behind the tribute to Sonya Eddy is a lot to deal with but fans will get through it. Eddy's tribute episode came 4 months after she died and Days of Our Lives still has not acknowledged the death of John Anniston on November 11 of last year and fans are wondering how they will kill off his character Victor Kiriakis. Those who enjoyed Nurse Bobbie Spencer should be on the lookout for the announcement of whatever tribute will be given and how Bobbie's death will be explained onscreen.
