William deVry recently addressed a growing social media issue which is fans overstepping and insulting soap stars. A few weeks back Kelly Thiebaud who is deVry’s current love interest on General Hospital was bullied online. The actress had just returned to the ABC daytime drama and was wearing bangs. Mean spirited viewers attacked her said some pretty mean things. Thiebaud addressed the issue in a very polite way but she never should have had an issue to address. Now, deVry who portrays Julian Jerome has had several post-COVID hairstyle changes but the responses I have read about his hair have been positive. In his recent tweet, he addresses fans who obviously have said something about the mane of Chad Duel who portrays Michael Corinthos, on GH.

It was announced that when the soaps returned to the air after the shutdown that cast members would be doing their own hair and wardrobe. These actors are playing roles and had been used to professional hair and makeup people preparing them to go in front of the camera. It’s only natural that sheltering in place, unable to go to their regular hairdressers/barbers, and doing their own hair on the set would look different. Most of the men had beards and the older males were showing a lot more gray hair during the shutdown. Some of the females on daytime began wearing wigs. This was a new and different situation and the daytime stars should have received overwhelming support:

It’s pretty childish for the viewing audience to try to control what the actors do and make disparaging remarks when something is different.Kelly Thiebaud put the bullies in their place and now William deVry is doing the same. It’s really disrespectful for fans to attack these actors whom they don’t even know personally. This is a result of the close proximity the social media puts soap stars and their fans. Moderators on Facebook groups for daytime drama actors often emphasize that no bullying or being mean spirited will be allowed. Even so, people continue with personal criticisms.

There was a day and time where performers were loved and respected from afar but now thanks to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram it seems familiarity is breeding contempt. Unscrupulous people are taking advantage of hiding behind a screen to be disrespectful. Some even argue with actors who has deVry says are only doing a job. Any sane person knows that everyone can have a bad hair day. Even with professionals on hand, there may be days when the soap stars hair does what it wants. This happens to everyone. For this reason the old adage of keeping quiet if you can't say anything good should apply.

Imagine being in the spotlight where every minor flaw is photographed, videoed, and goes viral to the entire world. I don't believe even one of the naysayers could handle such scrutiny. Regarding Chad Duel, I have not seen where anyone complained about his hair but if he wants to cut it, then fans have no right to be disrespectful. Kelly Thiebaud, Chad Duel, and William deVry are actors who are very good in their roles. Viewers should appreciate their talent and also respect their right to personal choice. Mean spirited fans should be called out and told that they will not be tolerated.

Julian and Alexis

For true General Hospital fans, spoilers indicate that some exciting scenes are coming up for Julian, Michael, and Britt. Cyrus Renault is pulling the strings and is using Dr. Westbourne as his puppet in the hospital. Britt was never that popular and now she will make even more enemies. Soaps She Knows says that more secrets related to Kelly Thiebaud's character are about to come to light and this should be interesting. On Tuesday it was revealed that Obrecht is out of jail and is behind getting Dante released to go back to Port Charles to investigate Peter. Sooner or later Britt will have to account for not believing in her mother's innocence.

Michael and Willow seem to be falling in love and believe that Nelle is gone. At some point, whether she resurfaces or not, the fact that she had the other half of Nina's necklace will shock everyone. Julian is trying his best to cover his tracks and find the envelope that Nelle says could incriminate him. He even went so far as to mug Martin, only to find out the envelope was a hoax. Julian has a lot of secrets that will hurt his loved ones should they be revealed. Eventually, Brad must come back to Port Charles and his return will affect Michael, Julian, and Britt in different ways so stay tuned.
