Funniest And Craziest April Fools Articles Focusing On Pop Culture

Got You!

By Culture SlatePublished 2 years ago 3 min read

April Fools day is a yearly tradition where people fall victim to pranks around the globe. Never trust anything you see or hear on that day because it is likely not the truth. April Fools pranks in pop culture can be fun or nerve-wracking until the fans realize that it is, in fact, a joke. Every year, at least one joke seems to get the internet abuzz with chatter and feeling foolish for falling victim to the prank. However, they are fun and creative and can make you smile once the initial shock wears off. Let’s take a look at some of the funniest and most innovative pranks that have been seen in the world of pop culture.

One of the ones that caught me this year was the joke that EA was canceling the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The post looked authentic until I realized it was still very late in the day on the 1st of April. That was one of those met with initial shock by the news that was being read and then laughter.

The coolest Star Wars prank comes from a laboratory in Europe that claimed to have discovered the force. As soon as you begin reading the article, it becomes clear that a clever ruse is being used as their scientific source is Professor Ben Kenobi of the University of Mos Eisley in Tatooine. They even go as far as to post quotes from said professor Kenobi and what this discovery means. The article looks and feels as authentic as they come. One of the best all-time for being witty and charming at the same time.

A few years ago, Screen Rant had a funny article that spoke about how Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker film was made so that they could have an origin story for the Joker we see in The Dark Knight. Those are what articles on April fools day should be. They should never create sadness, but fans should be able to recognize right away that they are a joke. There is no way those two movies could ever lead in or out of each other, which is the beauty behind the article.

DC Comics once published an April Fools joke that all of their Justice League lineup would be wearing trunks similar to Superman. This joke was that starting with Action Comics #1000, Superman went back to this classic look for the character, and the idea came from there. So what would the rest of DC’s mainstays look like with a pair of trunks on? The image shows Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman, Cyborg, and Wonder Woman all decked out for the joke.

One particular bit of news that made the rounds this year that actually frustrated fans was that Marvel had greenlit a season four of Daredevil, which would continue on from the Netflix run. This, when many fans realized, was, in fact, a joke, led to sadness. Daredevil fans have been clamoring for a continuation since the series has concluded. This one could be seen as mean by many, but this seems to be the nature of April Fools. No topic is off-limits on this day. Marvel pulled a fast one with this news.

There are plenty of pranks over the years that have been fun and full of shocks to general fans of pop culture. All it takes is a little creativity, and as long as everyone remains safe, there is no harm in pulling a quick joke to try and keep people guessing. I am sure this tradition will continue in the coming years, and it will be fun to see what celebrities, writers, and those in the limelight have in store for us in 2023.
