Disney announced a lot of shows at their 2020 Investor Call. The presentation promised several new shows and movies as well as many spin-off series from existing films and television shows. Fans have only gotten to see some of the shows announced at that investor call. Unfortunately, that means several shows mentioned during the call have either been canceled or gone silent on updates. While shows like Star Wars: Visions and The Bad Batch have been released and Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor are on the horizon, the vast majority of the shows announced are currently in limbo. However, fans may have just gotten a major update on one of the more anticipated series.

Donald Glover recently went on Jimmy Kimmel to discuss the upcoming season of Atlanta. Towards the end of the interview, Kimmel asked Glover about working on the new Lando show, which Glover seemingly confirmed that he was working on. When Kimmel asked Glover what it was like to be working on a “Lando Project,” Donald replied, “Am I? Just telling all my business.” Of course, he was largely joking in that reply. Then, he continued:

“No, yeah, I have a lot of things. I like to blossom and then go away. Right now is definitely the start of another one of those. I have like a ton of stuff I’ve been working on, but I just want it all to come out at the same time, so I feel like that’s what’s important.”

This did not necessarily confirm or deny anything, and Glover was definitely sly with his answers. However, he did not directly say no. Disney and Lucasfilm also like to keep details of Star Wars-related projects as hidden as possible until they are ready to make an announcement. Unfortunately, it seems like several of the shows announced during the investor call will either be canceled or have been delayed indefinitely.

There had also been no announcement of Donald Glover nor Billy Dee Williams returning for the Lando series. Although, it seems unlikely that Disney or Lucasfilm would recast a different actor for a role that both Glover and Williams played so excellently and seemed eager to revisit. If Glover was just being coy about his involvement with the project, it would be the first confirmation that fans have gotten in regards to casting. On the other hand, anything is possible until an official update comes from Disney.

Donald Glover first took on the role of Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The film itself underperformed at the box office for Disney and Lucasfilm, and it was extremely divisive among fans and critics. Donald Glover’s portrayal of Lando was a massive hit with critics and fans, however, and Glover spoke fondly of the role. It would be wonderful to see him return to the role in any capacity in the future. No details have been released regarding when the Lando series will take place in the Star Wars timeline, but it will likely be set some time prior to A New Hope.

The Lando show could be a prequel to Solo, which would allow the series to tell an origin story for Lando Calrissian. On the other hand, the series could take place after Solo, which would potentially allow for the return of Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra, another fan-favorite character from Solo. The show could also follow in the footsteps of Young Indiana Jones where each episode would tell a different story, starting with an introduction from an older Lando reminiscing about his adventures. This would also allow Billy Dee Williams to return as Lando as well. Regardless of when the show releases, fans will be extremely excited to see Donald Glover back in the role.
