Factory Owner Heir

Is the owner homophobic? Don't stick around to find out

Roman enjoyed spending time with his boyfriend, Patton, however he could and whenever he could. They would go to the movies, check out the animal shelter, even go to the children's playground to reexplore their inner children and talk about maybe having a family in the future.

Unfortunately, Roman and Patton would be enjoying the moments where it felt like they were the only two people in the world if not for the fact that Roman would have them run to another area entirely if he saw something... or someone. Basically, Roman's father owns a factory outside the city limit that helps make equipment used for stage productions. Roman would've gladly introduced Patton to his father, Larry, sooner rather than later, but he was worried that sexuality wasn't discussed in their house because of potential homophobia. Though Roman was still well off while living with his parents at home, he has gotten a gay fairytale published under a pen name, so Patton thought he was able to afford a portion of their dates because of that alone.

One day, Patton had an idea for a date that he figured would be very special for Roman, especially since he saved enough money to get a Disney-themed promise ring for Roman and wanted to give it to him on the date. Patton used his cardigan to blindfold Roman as he drove them to the special location. Eventually, he parked the car and Roman removed the "blindfold" to find that they were parked at the factory his father owned. He was stunned at the sight.

"I figured it would be a good idea for us to sightsee, plus I heard they have stages to test the products on, so I thought maybe we could act some improv plays out," Patton explained.

Roman wanted to express how scared he was about a date happening there of all places, but he remembered that Patton didn't know about his connection to the factory and organized it while thinking of Roman's love for theatre. As a result, he swallowed his worries and hugged Patton with all his might. Patton paid the parking meter and they went inside as tourists, but not before signing waivers. The factory had its fair share of visitors, so there were marked areas for visitors so that they wouldn't get in the way of everyone working nor would they get hurt by some of the construction.

As they were walking around the visitor areas of the factory looking at all the work and talking to each other like it was a regular date, Roman looked convincing that it was his first time at the factory. Every time he came to the factory in the past, he was amazed just thinking about the equipment being put to use in many kinds of performances, so it wasn't hard for him to act like it was his first time there. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to act like everything was fine forever, because he caught a glimpse of his father talking to a worker. Roman froze and Patton looked in the direction Roman was facing.

"Oh, that must be the owner. I heard he's quite pleasant," Patton stated.

Out of habit, Roman grabbed Patton's hand and ran to another room. He felt grateful that he was familiar with the layout of the factory to run to a safe area. Unbeknownst to both of them, Larry caught a glimpse of Roman with someone else and the commotion made him rather curious that time around. As a result, Larry set a time for a continuation of the conversation and went to look for him.

Roman led Patton to one of the empty rooms with a stage and equipment that was meant to be tested.

"Roman, what's bothering you?" Patton asked.

"Nothing is bothering me, Patton," Roman answered.

"We've dated for almost 2 years, Roman, and every once in a while, the dates involved you running from something that caught your eye. Do you not trust me enough to tell me why the owner scared you?" Patton asked with hints of curiosity and hurt, which made Roman sigh with guilt.

"Fine, as long as you're the person who knows. The owner of this factory... is my father. He never brought up sexuality in the house to any of us and I'm scared that he might be homophobic," Roman explained while looking at the door.

Patton saw Roman's expressions and, even though he was aware of his boyfriend's acting skills, knew that he was being completely honest and was genuinely worried of what might happen.

"I didn't mean to bring you somewhere that would put you in a panic. We can leave of you know an alternative route to the exit," Patton spoke apologetically.

"No, Pat baby, we should at least enjoy this date before he finds us," Roman countered before kissing Patton.

They went up to the stage and performed a few songs and scenes, including from Roman's published gay fairytale. By the time Larry found them, they were in a scene where they were gazing into each other's eyes lovingly in the spotlight while holding each other. While approaching the stage, Larry clapped his hands loudly and shouted "Bravo! Bravo! Bravissimo!" dramatically. Roman and Patton took notice of him and backed away embarrassed.

"Oh, Dad, um, I can explain," Roman nervously claimed.

"Well, you can start by explaining the relationship status between you two," Larry chuckled.

Roman looked at Patton nervously before turning to his father.

"Um, Dad, this is Patton... my boyfriend," Roman introduced.

Larry took the information in and gave both of them a pat on the back.

"A Patton the back, sir? From Roman's concerns, I didn't think you'd take it this well," Patton spoke up.

"Well, Dot and I have planned that sexuality would be discussed as a family if either Roman or Remus told either of us, so we never brought it up for the sake of avoiding pressure," Larry explained, causing Roman's face to light up.

"So... you're not homophobic?" Roman asked with hope.

"Of course not. Your great-grandfather might be, but I'm bisexual," Larry told his son.

Patton chuckled at the scene and felt his pocket.

"Oh, um, RoRo, I've been hoping for a romantic enough part of the date to give you this, but I guess it seemed more significant that your father sees this as well," Patton said while giving the ring box to Roman.

Roman sees the words "Promise Ring" etched into the box before opening it to see that it was a Disney-themed promise ring. He looked at Patton completely speechless.

"So... you really hope for those family life scenarios to become a reality?" Roman asked.

"Of course, my Gryffindor. I can't imagine anyone better," Patton told him before the young couple shared a loving kiss with the ring on Roman's finger.

Larry took a picture of the couple on his phone without the flash and sent it to Dot. Roman and Patton pulled away after several more seconds and glanced Larry's way.

"Guess the only one left is Remus," Larry joked.

Roman pulled up his phone to reveal a Facebook status by Remus involving an intoxicated orgy before saying "I think it's pretty obvious."
