Emily in Paris / Lily Collins / Emily Cooper / Netflix

The biggest Netflix show to grace our screens this year is Emily In Paris. It centres around the life of Emily Cooper (played by Lily Collins) who works in Media Marketing and finds herself landing a transfer to a marketing firm called Saviour in Paris where she faces tension in the workplace with her colleagues. Stepping in for her boss, she heads to Paris and introduces herself to the team. The tension resonates from the prejudice that she is an Chicago born American who has moved to Paris without learning a word of the language.

Unaware of the way the building layout compared to American buildings, she accidentally tries to open the door to her downstairs neighbour, Gabriel. Gabriel is a tall handsome man who tells us that he is the Head Chef at the restaurant from where Emily and Gabriel live. At first we all assume is a handsome single man, but later we find out, after a steaming hot kiss with Emily, we find out he is dating someone else.

After a few episodes, Emily meets an attractive blonde French woman who would help with her French at a flower stall. She introduces herself as Camil. The two become friends only to realise after a hot smooch with Gabriel, that Camil is Gabriel's girlfriend. What a love triangle this turned out to be. One of the nicest and best looking men in Paris so far and Emily seems to fall for the one that's already dating someone.

A few clients flirt and go on dates with Emily but none of them have ever stuck. Maybe because she is in love with Gabriel and he's the one she's meant to be with.

Later on in the season, Cami invites Emily to the countryside where her parents live. Her parents live and own a vineyard where they make their own champagne. Cami's parents want to loan money to Gabriel so he can buy the Restaurant he works at and make it his own but he refused their offer. This creates a lot of tension between him and Cami but Emily tried to stay out of the way.

While being away in the countryside, Emily meets a very charming champagne apprentice and after a few champagnes and a lot of flirtatious banter, the two sleep together, which accidentally slips out at the breakfast table in front of Camil's parents. Emily is embarrassed. We soon learn that this man was not Camil's brother as we all presumed, but actually Camil's nephew. A 17 year old virgin which understandably makes the breakfast table very uncomfortable for Emily.

After a meeting with the leading fashion designer, Emily is branded as "Ringarde". Roughly translating to 'Basic Bitch'. Saviour's future with his company is in major jeopardy, unless Emily can find a way to persuade him not to market their products with someone else. In an epic race to win back her future with company, she has a dramatic idea that would put their company back on the French map.

In an amazing show off at a rival company's fashion show, Pierre Cadault completely steals the show and gains more followers as a result. Emily helps save the company and saves her from getting her ass whooped as a result. She couldn't be any happier. At the end of the season, we find out that Gabriel is moving to the south of the country where he grew up as he found a restaurant he can afford by himself. As Emily starts dating Antoine (a client from Saviour) he has a surprise in store for Emily...

A few moments before the season finale ends Antoine has a proposition for Gabriel that will change his life. Antoine offered to buy the restaurant for Gabriel so that "Paris doesn't lose the most promising and talented chef" he's seen. He doesn't have to move. No one is more delighted than Emily, unsurprisingly.

For me, it wasn't the greatest ending as we expected to be few cliff-hangers but not so many that the show ended with a much bigger cliff-hanger from what the running up to the finale entailed... I was a bit disappointed. We have been left with so many unanswered questions if the show decides not to be renewed.

Very good and funny show all the same and recommend to anybody

3.5 out of 5 stars for me altogether
