Doug Davidson fans are loyal and faithful to the veteran soap actor. They continue to encourage him and also have kept up their pleas to CBS and THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS to bring his character back to Genoa City. Within the past month the number of those who watch the soap have increased their complaints that Paul Williams is desperately needed. The actor who portrayed Paul for close to 4 decades is greatly missed and his fans want him to return and take charge. The main thing issue that seems to be in the forefront is Paul saving the day and reining in Rey Rosales.

Please note that this issue is character-driven and is not an indictment against Jordi Vilasuso who is only working with the script he has been given. Please do not attack the actor because the problem lies behind the camera. The police detective is the only employee of the GCPD who is being shown lately and he is investigating his own poisoning. Rey has been blurring lines along the way. The actual Genoa City Police Department had not been shown in ages. Paul’s name is dropped every now and again but his presence is what its being demanded.

Rey never checks in with anybody at the precinct but is operating as a rogue cop. On Wednesday he saw Chelsea out eating with Chloe and realized her recovery is a bit too fast. He should have a partner or at least be reporting back to chief Williams but he is handling things all on his own. He has also discussed details of the case with Genoa City residents who have no need to be in the loop. It's not clear what the writers are trying to accomplish but one result that has been constant is the anger of those who watch THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS.

Viewers on social media are saying that this is unethical and unprofessional behavior on the part of Rey Rosales who has turned into a one man vigilante. Numerous Y&R fans are saying the writers need to make this situation right by calling in Doug Davidson to once again take on the role of Paul Williams. There used to be a set of the GCPD and at one point both Sharon and Rey were working there. Actors portraying other police officers were also on hand.

There was a scene early on where Rey was sitting in Paul's chair and spinning around and this really upset viewers. The police department is as much a part of Genoa City as other locations and fans want to see Doug Davidson back in his chair as Paul William, chief of police. A few months back Davidson made a comment on Twitter that seemed to indicate he was done with the CBS daytime drama, His most ardent fans, however, are hoping that THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS is not done with him and that if they call he will return.

Doug Davidson’s loyal fan base reach out to him via social media all the time and he graciously responds. Recently one fan addressed a rumor that Davidson might be returning to the CBS soap but the actor replied that he had no idea where the information is coming from. Last year Davidson said that Y@ R execs have his number but for whatever reason, they do not call him. Another follower gave a phone number that fans can call that is supposed to be an audience voice mail set up by CBS.

I dialed the number and at first, received a busy signal. I kept trying until the voice mail picked up. It does not indicate that it is CBS or affiliated with THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS but nevertheless, I left a message expressing my support for Doug Davidson. What viewers cannot understand is why CBS execs are treating a 40 year veteran of the show so badly? There has never been any press that I know of that indicated the actor was difficult. Fans love him and Eric Braeden who portrays Victor Newman has voiced several times on social media that “ Dougie Davidson” deserves better.

Braeden has also been outspoken regarding the air time give to new cast members but again this is storyline-driven and should not be used as a method of attacking the actors who play the roles. Paul was off the air for close to a year in 2018 then was brought back for only a few episodes. He and his wife Chris were shown in a couple of romantic settings and then everything changed. There was an episode where Paul and Michael had just finished a game of racketball which was an activity they enjoyed in the long past.

Fans were shocked and embarrassed for Davidson and Christian LeBlanc who were wearing shorts and carrying their rackets as they had done during the 1990s. I have said it before and will say it again: It was as if CBS was saying Paul and Michael were relics of days gone by and deserved to be relegated to the past. Viewers know that if they chose, those who pen the scripts can write relevant storylines for veteran characters instead of bringing on new cast members such as Ashland and Tara Locke.

Christian LeBlanc is currently getting more air time as DA Michael Baldwin and is involved in the storyline with Amanda and Victor. He is also monitoring the situation with Adam, Rey's poisoning, and Chelsea's role in the crime. Lauren has also been on camera more due to the feuding between her employees, Summer, and Sally. Esther showed up last week, but Paul is still MIA.
