We don’t have time. Something crazier will happen next!

Dead to Me is a Netflix series. Grieving the loss of her husband, Jen meets Judy in a grief support group. The pair become close friends, sharing their biggest fears and deepest regrets. When more secrets are revealed, the women are left in a precarious situation involving the cops.

I binged all three seasons of Dead to Me while on the treadmill. The series is an entertaining and nail-biting show. The characters are running from something at every moment. Friendship is a valuable theme in Dead to Me as well as moving on and accepting the truth.

Christine Applegate and Linda Cardellini had fantastic chemistry. Opposite in personality, they connect for a reason. When they weren’t feverishly running around keeping evidence from being discovered, Jen and Judy had the best conversations. Despite all the bad happenings, the women unite at the right time.

Phenomenal in all of their scene work, Applegate and Cardellini excelled in multiple emotional sequences, especially in season 3. My favorite scene was when they got high together, uttering the zaniest things. Some of their best one-liners were improvised.

A hand goes out to Applegate. She was diagnosed with MS midway through the filming of season 3. Filming was tough, and her condition was noticeable. Now sitting for most scenes, Applegate needed assistance when standing. Nevertheless, Applegate pulled through, carrying out a great performance.

James Marsden was terrific. He wasn’t supposed to have two roles. The director enjoyed working with him in the first season and he was given a new storyline for the next season. I can’t imagine Dead to Me without Marsden.

Studying both layers of his characters, He was hostile as Steve and the sweetest man ever when he was Ben. Mardsen is a talented actor. He also emphasized how men shouldn’t be afraid to show their vulnerable sides.

Dead to Me has a talented cast of actors. Jen is constantly at battle with her sons. Charlie (Sam McCarthy) was in his rebellious teen phase, while Henry (Luke Roessler) liked to express himself through the arts. Scenes with his singing group were fun.

Diana-Marie Riva did an excellent job as Ana Perez, a tough cop who maintains a tight watch over Jen and Judy. Every character has layers. I didn’t realize how close we’d get with Perez throughout the series.

Side characters are also essential. There’s a brief appearance by the late Edward Asner in season 1. More credits include Max Jenkins, Brandon Scott, Valerie Mahaffey, and Natalie Morales.

Dead to Me is a mystery series. The series takes several twists and turns until making a realistic approach in the third season. The cancer arc felt forced, but after thinking about it, the storyline is effective to the series message; don’t tell lies and don’t wait.

Liz Feldman built a series about friendship. That was the best part of Dead to Me. Make life worth living. The characters get themselves into devious situations in each episode. Feldman did a fantastic job implementing dark comedy. She maintains viewer engagement throughout, keeping storylines and characters progressing at the right pace.

It’s so easy to binge on Dead to Me. Whenever I mentioned the series to others, they lit up in excitement. People have a lot of good things to say about the series. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger. The series effectively administers dark comedy.

Pour a glass of wine and binge the series with a friend. It’s a superb Netflix series that entices you right from the first episode.
