Martha Madison walks away from her role as Belle Black

Soap fans there has been a major development on Days of Our Lives. Soaps in Depth is reporting that Martha Madison has walked away from her popular role as Isabella Belle Black after close to 2decades. The actress was honest about what brought her to this decision so fans will have no doubts about what happened. She says that Belle has been on the sidelines without a significant role in Salem ever since her affair with EJ DiMera (Daniel Feuerriegel) was finalized.

The actress says the Days of Our Lives executives decided they only wanted her on the soap on a recurring basis when she was needed for legal advise. This begs the question of whether the marriage of Belle to Shawn Douglas Brady will be in trouble because there has been no notice that Brandon Beemer is leaving the soap. Madison said that since Belle is the of daughter of the popular legendary longtime couple Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) and John Black (Drake Hogestyn), she did not think the character should be treated this way so she refused to work off contract.

Bell may return to Salem at a later date

Madison's last episodes will not air until November because Days of Our Lives tapes about 6 months in advance. This is the reason the death of Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) is being addressed on screen at this time. Anison died in December but the episodes where Victor dies and is memorized are just taking place.

Martha Madison says she is happy to be in a position to make this move as she works full-time with her own talent agency. She added she is not upset about what happened and that she might be open to returning to Days of Our Lives in the future if Belle is given a worthy storyline. Following is what she said in her own words.

In my opinion, Belle was never meant to be a peripheral character,” she continued. “She is the only child of Marlena and John, and after 19 years of coming and going from the show, it just finally clicked for me that they were never going to showcase the character the way I felt she should be. So I declined the opportunity to recur and shot that last episode in April. Don’t get me wrong, I am so grateful to have played Belle for two decades, but I’m ready for more. It was just time to leave.”

The future in Salem for Shawn and Belle is uncertain

There are no details at this time on whether the role of Belle Black will be recast or if the character is simply leaving Salem. Days of Our Lives fans will be watching to see what leads the character to leave town and how Shawn Douglas will respond. He feels guilty about shooting his dad Bo Brady (Peter Reckell), trying to battle alcoholism, and was just promoted to Salem Police Commissioner. He also feels responsible for his grandfather Victor's plane crash and death.

DOOL fans are stunned by this turn of events and sad that the actress felt she had to make thsi choice. No one understands why the series would treat Belle so shabbily but the deed is done. Be on the lookout for spoilers, breaking news, and updates related to what will be happening in the next few months with Shawn and Belle on Days of Our Lives. Keep watching to see Martha Madison's last scenes in Salem as Belle Black on the Peacock soap.
