'Cherish the Day': New Series Coming to OWN

Cherish The Day is a new upcoming romantic drama created and produced by Ava DuVernay. The series is set to air in a two-night premiere on Tuesday, February 11 and Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 8 PM on Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). It is premiering in time to put people in a romantic mood for Valentine's Day on Friday, February 14.

Cherish The Day is DuVernay's second series on OWN. The other one is Queen Sugar that is scheduled to return for its fifth season in June 202o.

About Cherish the Day

The new romantic drama focuses on one couple whose love is very real. The man and woman meet and fall in love in Los Angeles. Viewers will see how their love grows over the entire season that includes eight episodes.

The network indicates that the story will progress to reveal significant moments in a couple's relationship that could show up in any relationship when two people are truly in love.

About the Cast

The series consists of eight episodes that cover a couple's relationship from the first time they met and fell in love. The drama has a limited cast with only three main characters. Xosha Roquemore plays Gently James as the woman in love with Evan Fisher, played by Alano Miller. The young couple meets and falls in love in Los Angeles. The first season will span five years that will show how their love developed over that period of time.

Cicely Tyson is the third main character. The legendary actress plays Miss Luma Lee Langston who encourages and gives her live-in assistant Gently James romantic advice. Miss Luma wants her assistant to develop a strong and meaningful relationship with Evan Fisher.

Tyson is still going strong at the age of 95. She appears on our television screens quite often. She is also starring now in Tyler Perry's A Fall from Grace that was released on January 17, 2020 on Netflix.

There are also only three recurring characters that include people associated with the main couple. Michael Beach plays Ben, Gently's foster father. Anne-Marie Johnson plays Dana as Evan's mother who doesn't approve of her son's relationship with Gently. Kellee Stewart plays Ellene, Evan’s religious sister.

About the Producers and Directors

Working along with Ava DuVernay as executive producers on Cherish the Day are Oprah Winfrey, Paul Garnes , and Tanya Hamilton . DuVernay is a passionate filmmaker and film distributor. She has been nominated and won awards for directing and producing films. The 47-year-old filmmaker won the directing award for her second feature film Middle of Nowhere making her the first black woman to win the award. She became the first black woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Director for her film Selma. She also became the first black female director for the same film that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Filmmaker Tanya Hamilton is also one of the directors. In fact, she directed the first episode. Other directors include Blitz Bazawule, Aurora Guerrero and Deborah Kampmeier. DuVernay is pleased with the number of women who have worked on the project. The production crew consists of over 50 percent women which includes 18 female department heads.

Reactions About Cherish the Day

People seem to be excited about the upcoming anthology, according to social media. Some folks are commenting about it before it even airs. Based on the trailer and things they have heard about the series, movie lovers say they are looking forward to watching it. Many have commented that the love story is something refreshing to see because of the many negative things we see and hear on the news almost every day.

Fans of the Oprah Winfrey Network are glad a good show is coming to the network after hearing last week that OWN canceled Ambitions after only one season. There were several stories that were not concluded, and fans were left speechless when the series was canceled.
