Pros: You have never seen so many superheroes in one frame, beautiful special effects, plenty of battle scenes

Cons: The motivations of the characters are not always clear, action scenes sometimes resemble footage from Indian action films

Unfortunately, the Avengers do not always manage to avoid collateral destruction, as well as civilian casualties, which greatly irritates world leaders. They want to take control of superheroes, which drives the first wedge between them, since not everyone is ready to unconditionally carry out other people's orders. The second wedge turns out to be “Bucky” the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), whose arrest is prevented by Captain America.

This splits the Avengers into two camps; oddly enough, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) advocates self-restraint, but Steve Rogers, on the contrary, advocates freedom of action. The motivation of the two main characters seems even more or less clear; after the fall of the SHIELD organization, Captain America does not trust government initiatives. And Iron Man Stark is simply going through another personal crisis, which prevents him from focusing on what is happening.

But the stories of other heroes are generally revealed very poorly, so it is not always clear why they choose one side or another. However, this does not apply to Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), the line of his hero goes separately from the others and looks the most logical.

After all of the above, it may seem that this time the “Avengers” are fighting exclusively with each other, but this is not the case, just like in previous films, “Confrontation” has its own main villain, and in some ways he is even more dangerous than the previous ones.

The actors of Captain America: Civil War, who managed to appear in previous Marvel films, got into their roles well. It’s as if they were in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” 5 minutes ago and now they moved to “Captain America: Civil War.” However, while Downey Jr. copes well with dramatic scenes, others find it a bit difficult. Even in the previous scene, the stone-faced hero was chopping down enemies, but now he feigns anger or sadness, but the stone face does not completely disappear. However, there isn't as much drama in the film as there are battle scenes, so it's not annoying at all.

The most interesting thing was to look at the “newcomers”: Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman, and, of course, Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. I especially want to note that Holland looks like a young Tobey Maguire, who played Peter Parker (Spider-Man) in the first three films. So the new character is perceived as already familiar, as if there were no two more films about the “spider” with Andrew Garfield. And, despite the fact that the stories of the new characters in the film are not fully revealed, they fit well into it.

Overall, Captain America: Civil War was more about the relationships between the characters, which were given little time in previous films, than about the conflict itself. Perhaps the development of the relationship between the characters was necessary to show for future films. Here the Vision-Scarlet Witch line appears, the romantic relationship of Captain America, new reasons for Tony Stark’s depression, as well as the position of states regarding superheroes, which previously seemed not to notice them.

This all creates a new framework for the further development of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and more opportunities for writers. The film is definitely worth watching if you have seen all the previous films with Marvel heroes, as well as for those who simply love spectacular movies with a lot of special effects and battle scenes. In Captain America: Civil War, the Russo directors even go overboard at times, making the characters perform stunts like in a Bollywood blockbuster. However, the film looks big.

We were able to ask actor Paul Bettany a few questions about his role as Vision, as well as about the movie Captain America: Civil War itself.

In the new film, Vision expands on his character. He is more emotional, but at the same time he behaves naively in places. Tell us more about your character.

Vision is an android, artificial intelligence, but at the same time he develops as a person. In some ways, he can be compared to a child - he was created not so long ago, and is still learning about the world and people, which is noticeable in his philosophical monologues. He acts on the side of Stark’s team, but thanks to Vision’s diplomatic qualities, you can always agree on anything with him.

Outwardly, Vision is completely different from the other Avengers. Do you remember your reaction when you first saw the designs for his costume and appearance?

I immediately thought that I would have to spend a lot of time wearing a mask. In the first days of filming, I wore it for about one and a half to two hours. Three people worked on my appearance at the same time, so makeup took relatively little time. Most of the small details were added later, using computer graphics. For example, I didn’t have to wear contact lenses.

Did you know anything about Vision before you got the role?

No, absolutely nothing. My character is in the film, first of all, for the audience of fans. And I grew up in England in the 70s, when there were no comics here yet. This is the difference between me and Kevin Feige (American producer and head of Marvel Studios - editor's note) with the Russo brothers (directors of the film - editor's note) - they are true fans of the Marvel universe, and are fully aware of their responsibility for its legacy. You can be sure that as long as they are in business, the franchise is in good hands.

Was there an opportunity to bring something personal to your character? The manner of communication, the details of the costume, the peculiarities of behavior?

Yes, we were lucky that the directors did not set strict restrictions on working on roles. You should have seen Feige when I first met him on the set of the first version of Vision - he acted like an eight-year-old when he saw me. On the other hand, such films are made with a very high budget, which first of all requires corresponding box office receipts. Therefore, the director always has the final say. In addition, there is a rule: if you once played a character from the Marvel universe, you will never be able to play another hero from these comics. Having previously voiced JARVIS was a bit of a hurdle for me.

Despite Vision's artificial nature, he appears to have very human feelings for Scarlet Witch.

It’s true - he’s partial to Wanda, and it kind of scares him. As I already said, Vision is still somewhat naive, and is trying to figure out how people behave in certain circumstances. With his appearance and mannerisms, he sometimes resembles the hero of romantic films of the 50s. At the same time, she and the Scarlet Witch are, one might say, cut from the same cloth - they are united by psychic abilities and an interest in mysticism.

Conclusion:

Captain America: Civil War is an important film for all fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, without watching which it will be difficult to follow the further development of the plot. For everyone else, it's just another spectacular superhero film with lots of special effects, as well as famous actors
