The cover is split down the middle on the right side is a screen shot of Lilith as a child holding a broom like a bow staff, on the right side is Lilith while in the emperor's coven, stiff and emotionless. The title is in the center.

Raine had just become the head witch of the Bard Coven and just had to surrender their palisman. It was one of the hardest things they had ever done. Both of them knew it was worth it. They were a witch on a mission, and while it was still hard to say goodbye knowing that they would never see one of their closest friends ever again. Not even knowing what would happen to her. They had just finished crying and wiping away their tears when the head witch of the Emperor's Coven came, just like the guard told them she would.

The two of them just stared at each other in shock. Lilith had not been told who the new head witch was but definitely did not expect to see Raine Whispers, a witch riddled with performance anxiety, a witch that once upon a time she viewed as a little sibling.

Raine knew that Lilith was the leader of the Emperor's Coven, and expected support and comfort from the person who they once considered a big sister. They had seen her on the recruitment posters, with straight dark blue hair and no glasses, but nothing prepared them for just how different she was as a coven leader. She didn’t even acknowledge the fact that it was obvious that they were crying. She didn’t try to comfort them about the loss of their palisman like they expected her to. Her face was completely unreadable, excluding a brief shocked look when she first saw them. "Lily?" they whispered loud enough for her to hear, though she acted like she didn't.

She had recovered from the shock of seeing Raine and began her prewritten speech. “I am Lilith Cawthorne, leader of the Emperor's Coven, I am here to welcome you here to the Emperor's Coven, as required you have already surrendered your palisman, doing so you have proven your commitment to Belos. I will now give you a tour of the castle, explain the rules, and tonight you will meet the other coven heads and high-ranking officials,” she started walking, acting as if she was talking to a stranger.

Raine tried to walk next to her, but she just walked faster, doing her best to remain in front of them. “Lily, I had a rough time today giving away Ellytone, you know how close we are and how bad I am with meeting new people,” they pleaded.

“Those are the rules Ra-” she stopped herself from saying their name, trying to make this as impersonal as possible. She started going over the rules. She had always been proper but now it seemed like all of her emotions were drained. Raine felt the need to fix that. When they decided to climb up the ranks to head witch, knowing that Lilith was in the castle was a comfort for them. They assumed that she would be a safety net, a taste of familiarity in this crazy transition. They needed to find a way to bring out the real Lily. They tried to talk to her during the tour, but she, for the most part, ignored them. At one point, when there was no one else around she turned to address them. “Raine, things are different now, I have a reputation to uphold I can't be the same witch I that I was when we were children.”

“But it’s just the two of us here, Lily, can't you be yourself when it’s just us, I miss having you as a sister,” it was clear to Lilith that the comment was completely sincere as it was matched with their awkward, yet hopeful smile. "I kinda hoped we'd be able to reconnect as kind of siblings now that we're both here, like how we were when we were younger."

She looked at them her expression softening momentarily at the memories. She shook her head, to dismiss the thoughts of the old her. “Raine, I’m not the same witch you remember, she doesn’t exist anymore, and I don’t want you calling me Lily it’s Lilith. Right now I’m your superior, I don’t want to have to report you for insubordination,” the new prim proper new Lilith was back, and proceeded with the tour and rules as if the conversation never happened.

Raine could clearly see how this was just a facade and needed to fix it. Even those in high-ranking positions deserve to have fun.
