Best Comedy Specials

I am a huge fan of stand up comedy. I think it is the best way to disconnect and turn off my analytical brain. Even if I try to watch a tv show or movie for fun I end up breaking it down and analyzing it. With stand up comedy (as that is definitely not my area of writing) there is nothing for me to analyze. That said I have seen most of the specials on Netflix as that seems to be the peak of accomplishment for comedians. And I am here with the definitive list of funniest specials on Netflix.

Starting off super strong we’ve got Taylor Tomlinson. Now here’s the deal, both of her specials are hilarious but her more recent one; Look At You made my stomach hurt I was laughing so hard. If you are a woman between the ages of 20-35 it is unnecessarily relatable and a lot of this special felt like it was directly at me. Down to the dead mom jokes that apparently only those in the dead mom club think are funny.

Next we’ve got Katherine Ryan. As is the case with Taylor Tomlinson either special is hysterical but I love Glitter Room. It is her most recent special and it's fantastic. She talks about being a single mom and attempting to coparent, family and living in London.

One of the absolute best specials on Netflix is anything by Tom Segura but his Sledgehammer special is next level. Patrick and I had to pause it a few times so that we could get ourselves together. His boundaryless, out of pocket humor is amazing and you have several moments where you have to ask yourself “did he just say that?”.

John Mulany’s Baby J is an emotionally hilarious watch. I have seen every single one of his specials several times. For the most part his comedy is on the cleaner side which is hilarious all by itself considering that in all his previous specials he was clearly coked out. But his comedy about his rehab experience and getting clean is very well done. The fact that he can still do his job and be phenomenal at it sober is really great.

One of John Mulany’s personal friends Nick Kroll also has a very entertaining special on Netflix. A lot less “clean” than his buddy John but still just as entertaining. Nick Kroll takes the chaotic energy that he brings to all of his tv and movie appearances and puts that on stage.

One of my personal favorites on Netflix is Pete Davidson’s The Best Friends special. He talks about his friends and his relationship with Ariana Grande and he reminds us why being funny can get you into relationships with some of the most beautiful women on the planet.

In our second to last spot on this list we’ve got Adam Devine who you may remember as Bumper from Pitch Perfect. Yes, that guy is a stand up comedian and he is actually quite funny. It's a chiller special then some of the others. He’s got some chaotic energy but it's casual funny.

And last but not least in one of the best specials that has ever been captured on film we have Steve Martin and Martin Short. Both of these men are comedy icons and their friendship alone is a joy to watch but you are immediately reminded where comedy comes from and why it is fun and the answer is these two men. Steve Martin and Martin Short are two of the most incredible performers of our lifetime and you get to experience the full scope of their talent in this truly amazing comedy special.
