All I want for Christmas is...to drink hot chocolate and watch movies.

Christmas movies list

For my entire childhood, Christmas was solely a holiday about the movies. I had to gather the family together for a film and Thankfully, they obliged. As the great Macaulay Culkin said in Home Alone 2, "You can mess with a lot of things. But you can’t mess with kids on Christmas.

Moreover, There's no better feeling in the world than cozying up in your best Christmas pajamas with a mug of hot chocolate and watching a Christmas movie.

Love Actually — NETFLIX

Intersecting storylines, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” Colin Firth — this Christmas-themed rom-com has it all. Get into the holiday spirit and celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary by watching Love Actually for the first, or 400th, time this Christmas season. I won’t judge

A Christmas story - MAX

As another reigning holiday classic, it would be criminal for A Christmas Story to not find a place on this list. Filled with quotable one-liners (“You’ll shoot your eye out.”) and relatable Christmas tropes, there’s a reason why this film has been enjoyed for 40 years.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) - AMAZON APPLE TV+

In 2000, Jim Carrey put on a big green Grinch suit to bring the famous cartoon to life. And, because it’s Jim Carrey, there’s a lot of improvised humor, including a pretty gross cheese-eating scene that barely passes. Anyway, we love it.

Elf - AMAZON APPLE TV+

In this ludicrous (and surprisingly romantic) fish out of water fantasy, James Caan plays Will Ferrell, a clownish orphan reared by Santa and his elves in the North Pole who travels to New York City to find his biological father, a cynical book publisher.

Home Alone - AMAZON APPLE TV+ DISNEY+

Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) is forgotten by his family and forced to battle a couple of dimwit thieves (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) around Christmas in this enduring children's adventure from director Chris Columbus and writer John Hughes

It's a Wonderful Life - AMAZON APPLE TV+

Few movies capture the spirit of Christmas quite like Frank Capra's 1946 fairytale starring Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, who is about to take his own life until he receives a visit from an angel who teaches him the value of life.

When harry met sally - AMAZON PRIME AND MAX

Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal play Sally and Harry: Two friends trying to figure out whether men and women can ever be just friends over a relationship that spans many years and holidays. The movie's soundtrack even features a few of the best love songs and Christmas songs, like "It Had to Be You" and "Winter Wonderland" — just to name a few.

Home Alone 2: lost in New York - DISNEY+

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York follows Kevin McCallister as his family embarks on another holiday trip, and somehow loses sight of him once again, with him boarding a plane to New York. That's a little more rational than the illogical first movie, though the fact that he runs into Marv and Harry, the Sticky Bandits from Home Alone, is utterly ridiculous. Kevin spends some magical time in New York, meeting people like the Pigeon Lady and Donald Trump before helping the police capture the Sticky Bandits again.

The Muppet Christmas Carol - DISNEY+

The beloved Dickens Christmas story is told by puppets in The Muppet Christmas Carol. It centers on Ebenezer Scrooge, a man who doesn't celebrate Christmas or believe in humanity, as he is visited by the ghosts of Christmases past, present, and future. A glimpse of everything that has conspired in the miser's life, from his early years to his coldest present, is given. He has interactions with Miss Piggy, Kermit, Gonzo, and other Muppet character along the route

Solid list, all staples. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Bad Santa didn't make the cut?

  • I've only watched Love Actually, Home Alone 1 & 2 and How The Grinch Stole Christmas. I should watch the others you've listed here when I'm free. Thank you so much for sharing this!

George Bailey for the win, in my humble estimation.
