Although Olsen said she doesn’t miss playing Wanda Maximoff, this apparently doesn’t mean she won’t return to Marvel.

So, in my previous posts, I’ve talked about a bunch of cool Marvel stuff. You can find the links to those at the end of this post. But today, I wanna chat about Elizabeth Olsen and her awesome role in the MCU.

She’s been killing it as Wanda Maximoff. I’ll tell you what she’s said about playing the character in the future. So, let’s dive right in!

What is Elizabeth Olsen's significance in the MCU?

Elizabeth Olsen plays the stunning and powerful Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch. And let me tell you, she’s a force to be reckoned with.

We first meet Wanda in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015), where she and her twin brother Pietro, aka Quicksilver, gain superhuman abilities through experiments with the Mind Stone.

As Scarlet Witch, Wanda possesses incredible telekinetic and reality-altering powers. She can move things with her mind, create force fields, and even mess with people’s perceptions.

Now, Wanda’s journey in the MCU is a roller coaster ride. In “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), she sides with Captain America and becomes an Avenger. She showcases her immense power, giving the other heroes a run for their money.

But it’s in the critically acclaimed series “WandaVision” (2021) that we truly see the depths of Wanda’s character. The show delves into her grief and loss following the death of her beloved Vision, played by Paul Bettany.

Wanda creates a sitcom-like reality, blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, as she tries to cope with her pain. Olsen’s performance in “WandaVision” is nothing short of extraordinary, capturing Wanda’s emotional turmoil and growth.

Throughout the MCU, Elizabeth Olsen brings a rawness and vulnerability to Scarlet Witch that adds layers to her character. She beautifully portrays Wanda’s internal struggles and conflicts, making her journey relatable and captivating. Olsen’s acting chops are on full display, seamlessly transitioning between Wanda’s moments of strength and her moments of heartbreak.

In addition to “WandaVision,” Olsen reprises her role as Scarlet Witch in “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019). She shows off her powers on a massive scale, fighting alongside the Avengers to save the universe.

And let’s not forget her awe-inspiring battle against Thanos in “Endgame.” That scene alone proves that Scarlet Witch is one of the most formidable heroes in the MCU.

The last time we saw Elizabeth Olsen in the MCU was in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (2022), alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.

This was an epic adventure, exploring the multiverse and delving further into Wanda’s powers. It explored a threat to the multiverse sometime after the events of “WandaVision.”

All in all, Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal of Scarlet Witch in the MCU is a triumph. She brings depth and complexity to the character which makes her truly memorable.

From her origin story to her emotional journey in “WandaVision,” Olsen’s performance captivates audiences and solidifies Wanda Maximoff as a powerhouse in the Marvel universe.

The future of Olsen's character as Wanda Maximoff

Elizabeth Olsen recently shared her thoughts on playing the character. While she mentioned that she doesn’t miss portraying Wanda, it doesn’t mean she wouldn’t consider returning if Marvel Studios reached out to her.

After taking on supporting roles as Wanda, Olsen had the opportunity to dive deeper into the character in the Disney Plus series WandaVision.

During a conversation with The White Lotus actor Meghann Fahy for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Fahy asked Olsen if she missed playing Wanda. Olsen’s response was:

“No, I don’t […] I think it’s been almost 10 years of playing her. And I’ve loved it. And I think the reason why I am not calling Kevin Feige every day with ideas is because I’m really proud of what we were able to do.

I think ‘WandaVision’ was a really surprising opportunity […] If someone were to tell me that I’m fired from Marvel movies, I will feel proud of what we made.

And I really am just trying to figure out how to load up other films and characters so it becomes less about the Marvel of it all.”

It appears that Olsen would be content if her last appearance as Scarlet Witch was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, Feige hinted at the possibility of the Scarlet Witch returning in 2022.

Considering the uncertain fate of her character in the previous film, and Marvel Studios’ current multiverse storyline, any character could make a comeback in future movies.

In the interview, Olsen didn’t express any opposition to the idea of returning to the role. If Feige can present her with an intriguing project, she might consider reprising the character.

Final Words

Olsen has even hinted at having her own ideas for Scarlet Witch’s future storyline.

So, although she may not be actively reaching out to Feige, a compelling narrative might just entice her back into the exciting world of the MCU.
