Evan Peters finally won his first Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 73rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 19.

Peters won the award for his spectacular work as Detective Colin Zabel opposite Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy winning actress Kate Winslet in the HBO “Mare of Easttown.”

Fans sitting in living rooms around the world watching the live telecast likely cheered when Vanessa Lachey and Wilmer Valderrama announced the St. Louis native’s name as the winner.

Peters’ large and loyal band of ardent global admirers have long felt he deserves award recognition for his versatile body of work on Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s groundbreaking horror anthology series “American Horror Story.”

Peters has played 16 different characters across multiple seasons of the Emmy Award-winning anthology. His breakout came in AHS’ first season, “Murder House,” as the somehow-charming sociopath Tate Langdon – who gunned down 15 students in a mass high school shooting.

His emotional range was captivating. He could muster gut-wrenching sorrow then release unbridled rage in any single episode. Peters portrayed multiple characters in different stories and settings with the ease of a seasoned pro.

Yet somehow, he came up short on the award season accolades – until this year – when he played Detective Colin Zabel - a good guy chasing bad guys, who was more than a little enamored with his partner Mare (Kate Winslet).

Without further ado, here’s a look at five fantastic things about Evan Peters’ first-ever Primetime Emmy Award acceptance speech.

1. He fought some nerves as he looked around the room filled with his peers before he started speaking.

Peters paused, then said, “Oh shit. Public speaking,” before starting his speech. After playing so many complex, diverse roles in such intense scenes, his visible nerves remind us that the “X-Men” superhero is only human, after all.

2. He hugged his mom and thanked his parents for supporting his acting career.

His dad moved them from Missouri to Michigan for work as the Vice President of Administration for the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Peters was 15 and took his first acting classes at the Flint Youth Theatre. He was instantly drawn to the craft – and his parents lived hundreds of miles apart for five years while his mom went with him to California to help him pursue acting.

Their sacrifice was not lost on him. He acknowledged it in his speech. He said, “I’ve got to thank my mom and my dad for getting me out to L.A. You guys were crazy for doing that. But we’re gonna drink tonight.”

3. His enthusiasm for his leading lady was super cute.

Watching Colin fight his growing crush on Mare was a sweet aspect of an often dark and gritty series. As Peters thanked HBO and the “Mare of Easttown” creative team including Creator Brad Inglesby and Director Craig Zobel, he came to his onscreen leading lady and said, “and Kate Winslet FOR BEING KATE WINSLET!” with a spontaneous shout that drew laughter from the audience.

4. He thanked those who helped him along the way, including a shout-out to “Mr. Murphy.”

It’s nice to see an already hot, rising star remember those who helped him along the way. He scored roles in several films, TV series, and commercials before “American Horror Story” co-creator Ryan Murphy cast him in the breakout role of Tate Langdon in “AHS: Murder House.”

Peters has garnered millions of international fans in the AHS universe. In the tenth season, “AHS: Double Feature,” Peters acts and serves as producer. He humbly thanked his AHS boss, “Mr. Murphy. “ AHS fans far and wide were probably thrilled with the acknowledgement.

5. He thanked “Mare of Easttown” viewers for enabling “a dream come true.”

Enthusiastic viewers help a show succeed – and Peters remembered to thank them. He closed his speech with, “I especially want to thank everyone who watched the show. This is a dream come true for me tonight and it wouldn’t have been possible without you. Thank you.”

With his first Emmy gold statue firmly in hand, Evan Peters’ future is bright. He’ll be teaming up with Ryan Murphy in the lead role of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in the upcoming Netflix miniseries “Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story.” A premiere date is still TBA.
