When I came across Outlander it was during season 1 volume 2 it’s called. I have always had a fascination with all things Scotland so this show had two things: Scotland and romance. I didn’t get to see the first part of season 1 until after season 2 ended.

What drew me in? Well, it’s the on-screen chemistry of Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. The excellent villains, and villainesses that make you want to hate them. So here are the ten reasons why I think Outlander TV adaption is better than books.

1: Historical Romance: I am a history buff, but learning about Scottish history made me passionate about the country. So I started researching everything I could. I fell in love even deeper.

2: Great cast: Did you know DG wanted to cast the late Sean Connery to perform as Jamie Frasier. But Sam Heughan she said is just as great. Seeing the on set chemistry test between Sam and Caitriona just sealed the deal for me. (I am also a romantic - so, after seeing the chemistry made me love the show more).

3: I loved learning about Scottish history: Learning about different histories other than where I live is the best feeling of them all. Not just because I catch on very quickly to names and dates but I love United Kingdom history.

4: Old world romance: How Jamie treats Claire as husband and wife? This is how all romances should be in real life. It’s very far and in between but it is possible for this kind of love to exist. (I have it!)

5: The TV adaption: This adaption makes the characters come to life. They use real on site Scottish locations. (Travelling has always been my dream, seeing all these beautiful Scottish locations makes me want to see them for real.)

6: Moving forward: I love Scotland so much that me and my man are moving there together. So many locations to see.

7: Seeing legendary characters through history: Seeing Bonnie Prince Charles Edward Stuart, the introduction of General George Washington. It was awesome seeing all of these actors portraying them.

8: Triggers: Watching Jamie getting raped repeatedly by Black Jack Randell made me cry. Watching Claire get sexually assaulted. Brianna going through what she did, and Roger never knowing what happened. Seeing the episode of the West Indies of Slaves that pissed me off but in that time period it was awful. The way women were treated like property instead of them having a mind of their own!

9: The Heroine: Claire saves the day sometimes. The Hero Jamie saves her too. Personally I think that as a couple they protect each other.

10: Family Dynamics: Positive family dynamics is very important in this story. Since Claire and Jamie are family oriented. Claire will protect her family with everything she has. Jamie will do the same. To me this is what parents and grandparents should do. But this isn’t always the case. Watching this show seeing how families engage in each other with communication, spending together makes me wish I had that. But I know I never will. Seeing how strong minded Claire is how she taught Brianna to be just as strong minded makes me wish I had a Mom like that.

Watching this show has taught me a lot not just history, but family is everything. Even though Claire is a Time Traveler she loves Jamie and her family. Time, and space doesn’t matter, love is unconditional. That is the lesson Outlander has taught me. And why I am a fan of this show.
