'1 Night' is an excellent example of unique storytelling.

Time is a funny thing. What would you do if you could go back to the past?

1 Night landed in theaters in 2016. During a significant night, a set of generational couples explore their connections. They work together to understand what their relationships mean and where they could go.

1 Night is an excellent example of unique storytelling. Pay attention to every detail in this story. Stories that take place in one day are my favorite. This film has two alternative meanings. If you could go back to a moment in the past to fix an event, how would you go about doing it?

For a story like this, the quartet of actors studied their roles, relationships, and interactions very closely. This film could have one or two meanings. Depending on how you look at the angle at which the story is presented, I interpreted the story in two ways. That’s the fun part about movies. There is never just one meaning.

Elizabeth and Andrew have had their bouts with love. At one point, they understood their love for one another, but now they are not so sure. Returning to the place where they fell in love, they are met with flashbacks.

Anna Camp and Justin Chatwin were tremendous. I have seen these actors in various films, either comedy or drama. The first time I saw Chatwin was in The Invisible. Compared to that film, I was impressed with how he has grown as an actor. In a heated argument about why their love has failed, Camp and Chetwin were commendable.

Interacting with different generations is eye-opening, especially on the topic of love. Meeting on the night of their prom, Bea and Andy have an assortment of conversations on the definition of life, their interests, and challenge each other in a question game. You are only a kid once.

Another reason why I wanted to watch this film was because of Isabelle Fuhrman. I have only seen her chilling performance in Orphan. Here, she administered another commendable job as a teenager who feels lost. Fuhrman and Kyle Allen’s interactions were fun. They were the standouts.

Sometimes the quartet interacted with each other. Again, it bears two meanings. They either share advice or it’s a creative approach on how you would return to the past to talk to yourself.

Minhal Baig bore her own creative liberties with her direction of 1 Night. I really liked how the story was directed. We have to tell a story differently. Baig’s best direction went to her actors in analyzing the story and their relationships to one another.

The dialogue for the film is the highlight. Conversations feel natural. There was nice imagery and editing in the direction. The music has a charming rhythm throughout the story.

We need more films like 1 Night. The pacing was slow, but it was entertaining. I noticed that most viewers didn’t like the film because not a lot happened. I disagree. A lot does happen in the course of one evening. It’s best to keep things simple.

1 Night asks an interesting question. If you could go back in time, how would you do it? And why do you choose to remember this certain moment? Talking to your younger self is a cool concept. You learn a lot about yourself and life. Make your life what you want it to be and find your happiness.

I recommend 1 Night. Although it was a very simple story there is so much more to it. Go find this film on Tubi and enjoy it.
