Why fallout is hands down the best franchise.
Plain and simple.
When it comes to developing a game, in an age where applications and tools are primarily designed to become addictive whether through bright-coloured notifications and vibrant user interfaces I respect application and game developers that take on the other route. Instead of relying on these simple cookie-cutter tactics choosing to take on the huge endeavour of creating a rich and lengthy theatrical experience earns a lot of respect from the gaming community, one thing a lot of developers get away with especially within the age of battle royals and simple concepts it's a refreshing change to have games like Fallout release. As they are a constantly changing environment and outside the genius of the scriptwriting and coding, the game itself is a masterpiece derived from years of effort, instead of releasing an annual game they choose to take on a time-consuming project such as fallout 3, Fallout new vegas and Fallout 4 games that challenge the perception of all games being the same. Although Bethesda and the developers of the game have received a lot of backlash by continuing to use the same engine in the "Creation Engine" and has almost become a meme in sense due to Todd Howard (Director/Executive Producer) Iconic line during a Bethesda release said the words "It just works" followed by an avalanche of memes courtesy of the gaming community. In my opinion, their latest single-player experience in Fallout 4 was a perfect example of what to do in a game, whereas the feel and gameplay and overall functionalities and feel got a much-needed improvement keeping what got them to the dance in play is one of the most important decisions, keeping the charm of the game intact while building on a game that already had so much depth is an essential part of Bethesda's continued success.
So long as they keep this trend while doing an overhaul to the game because even as a huge fan of the franchise I am aware that the game has a lot of bugs and issues that could benefit greatly from a re-developed game engine and also a side effect of that is a product people are much more willing to pay for. Instead of a sports franchise-type feeling where each released game feels like the previous version just with added features I think Bethesda could get a huge upper hand over their competitors by delivering a brand new experience gameplay-wise while preserving the things that make Fallout a truly unique gaming experience. In an industry where most games gear towards trends and copying what they believe works the games that withstand the test of time are the games that did something completely different from the pack. Oblivion and the Morrowind and Skyrim games are a perfect example of this although wizards and magic had been done nobody did it quite as well as these games did and for that, they are immortalized in gaming history as some of the richest titles within the genre and much like that the Fallout games will be held in the same respect due to the fact nobody did it quite the same as Bethesda was capable of doing it.
Story-based games although seen as a dying breed are just as thriving as shown as games such as God of war coming out with a purely story-focused game and becoming wildly successful even when limited to one platform is perfect proof that even in an industry dominated by the giants such as Call of Duty, Apex or Fortnite, having a solid story-based game to immersed in is always a welcomed addition to any gamers library. So long as Bethesda learns from their mistakes and takes time to develop a new engine and fresh feel I firmly believe that the release of a new generation of consoles will become a crucial piece in them creating one of the best upcoming titles. Fallout is a game that the community continuously shows the appreciation with almost all of their titles to this day receiving attention and mods on a near-daily basis is a testament to their success within these titles. The post-apocalyptic genre will continue to expand in my opinion, no one can do it nearly as well as Bethesda has done with their fallout titles and I look forward to whatever work they produce in the future.
