Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville

My long-overdue review of this title

When you look back on where Plants vs zombies began with just a simple all be it cute tower defence game evolved into a Call of Duty-Esque multiplayer battleground type title has once again taken on a new face in its newest installment "Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville" once again they hit the hammer on the nail in terms of the very charm that got them to the dance in the first place, with a cute story and a newly designed social hub and activity area their newest title is jammed packed with things to discover and explore with your friends or to introduce you to possible new ones. Including a couple of new zombie and plant-based cooperative maps where you assist charismatic and cute characters in a range of puzzle like and task-based objectives in order to help out NPC's offering a fun experience outside of the usual PVP modes sure to hold your attention, in addition to these new things to do you will also be greeted by a hugely improved social area where exploration is promoted as you can find all kinds of neat additions to the game.

Along with the addition of a few new heroes to test out in acorns new oak tree transformation or the little ninja mushrooms super agile fight style or the to be discovered Wildflower which I have yet to gather enough gold for as of this exact moment, or the action hero, the groovy disco dancing hero as well as two more unlockable characters in the zombie's side; the wizard and the tv head both yielding expensive price tags in terms of in-game currency people will have no shortage of playstyle's to explore and test out in squads with their friends. Although people may not be excited to hear that the once-beloved character variations are no longer offered for what I can only imagine as balancing reasons, now offer a perk tree instead which range from one to three points per perk and allow for up to seven perk points in total which can make for some unique loadout's and combinations of abilites and buffs that can be saved into one of three loadout's on each individual character.

Along with these additions in terms of playable characters and new social hubs comes a revamped combat system that includes some changes to hero's abilities including the cactus (apologies to those who looked forward to building barricades with their cacti) and a few other crucial changes designed to once again balance the game, along with that every character now has the ability to sprint, with larger more robust maps comes the need to navigate it faster and they have listened and added the ability into the game along with it being better for getting places quicker each character comes with a uniquely goofy running animation sure to put a smile on your face when you click that stick to kick into high gear. Considering its price tag at the moment, I can confidently say that if you are a fan of these series this one is definitely worth checking out. All in all I give it a 7.5/10 when factoring in that the character variants have been removed it can be disappointing to some when we examine the why as to them being removed it is not outside of the realm of possibilities that a lot of our beloved variants may have broken the game just a tad. Also, I have knocked the rating down due to the new item purchasing system, although some items can be bought via the vendor in the social area unfortunately they have removed the once loved pack system and has been replaced by a gumball machine type 30,000 coin per spin gimmick, unfortunately lowering the chance to get amazing items I have still been lucky enough to stumble upon some worthwhile prizes the microtransactions are not the star of the show as the gameplay is sure to offer hours of fun and things to do with all our extra time during this pandemic. I love you all and hope you get a chance to pick this game up hope you enjoy it and have at least half as much of a blast as I did playing it.
