Pokémon Go is so last year. Early on Wednesday, the Pokémon Company has announced a new iOS and Android app called Pokéland. In this new game, players will use toy versions of their favorite creatures to battle across multiple islands. If that sounds familiar, then you've likely played Pokémon Rumble on the Nintendo Wii.

According to the official games Japanese website, Pokéland is currently in alpha testing and only available in Japan on Android devices, but a U.S. version is being developed.

So is Pokéland is better than Pokémon Go?

Well, it's definitely a different game, that's for sure. But with the market quickly becoming saturated with official Pokémon games like Pokémon Shuffle, Pokémon Duel, and Pokémon: Magikarp Jump; it sure looks like Pokéland will be a fresh twist to add to your mobile phone once it's released across the world.

In the alpha test, there are six islands, 52 different dungeons, 15 champion floors and 134 Pokémon. These numbers only bode well for the game to rise as another fan-favorite, especially if the Pokémon Company continues to expand and build on the game after its release.

It sure seems as though Pokéland is going to incorporate a lot of the features that fans have been wanting for a long time now. With the ability to collect and battle Pokémon across various locations and face new competition, it sounds like the Pokémon games that we've played for years on Nintendo's handheld consoles.

The Pokémon Company has been on a roll ever since Niantic released the global phenomenon Pokémon Go, which gave fans a taste of how it could feel to capture Pokémon in the real world — and we were hooked. Although it's fallen off in recent months, it still remains one of the highest-grossing apps ever. Time will tell if Pokéland is as much of a hit.
