Well, the video games that becomes a movie later after their massive success from the world of video games are now present. You don't have to become a gamer to experience it first hand anymore. All you have to do is to watch the movie version so you too can enjoy these video game story plot.

1. Pokémon

Pokemon is based in an anime series that turned into a game before the movie adaptation happens. A pokemon trainer is catching the pocket monsters from the anime series so they can go on a battle once ready. In Red and Blue from the original GameBoy, pokemon fans played this role-playing video game that gives them the feel of being the character from this anime series.

The game Pokemon Red and Blue became a multibillion-dollar franchise, and it reached 1.4 million units in 1996 and then 3.65 million in the following year. The sales worldwide reached 31 million copies sold that made it the bestselling RPG from Game Boy. There are remakes as well, which are the Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, which also a huge success when it comes to the world of video games.

2. Tomb Raider

Angelina Jolie played the role of Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider movie back in 2001 and 2003. A lot of Tomb Raider fans watched the movie adaptation of this video game, and in 2018, Alicia Vikander takes the role of this famous video game character. The new movie adaptation of this game is still working on the sequel so if you are one of the Tomb Raider fans you have to watch out for it.

Core Design initially developed Tomb Raider. Crystal Dynamics got it with their hands later, and series had been made subsequently by Eidos Interactive, and they merge with Square Enix. This video game sold a whopping 75 million copies including the series. It's one of the most popular video games based on a story plot of an English Archeologist Lara Croft.

3. Rampage

For all Dwayne Johnson fans out there, you must have seen the movie Rampage. It's based on an arcade game by Bally Midway in 1986. The story plot is that a vast gorilla went oversized and other huge monsters joined in together. They head to where the signal that they are hearing and destroys everything that will stop them from reaching that skyscraper where the signal had been placed. It's very entertaining to watch, and The Rock gave justice to make the movie version enjoyable.

The arcade game Rampage was a huge financial success until it lasted. It made its MS-DOS adaptation as well as the Atari Lynx version in 1991. The Rampage sequel was also released and called it Rampage World Tour. Another sequel was also made because of its success which is the Rampage 2 Universal Tour, Rampage Through Time, and Rampage Puzzle Attack. The last sequel made was called the Rampage Total Destruction.

4. Sonic the Hedgehog

Back in the '90s, Sonic the Hedgehog was a popular video game. The movie adaptation made justice with the character of Sonic himself, so the movie version becomes a success. However, when they released the first trailer, the character looks disturbing, which causes the movie to get delayed to modify Sonic's appearance. It's a wise decision since the movie company Paramount Pictures was able to make Sonic be precisely like the one from the game.

Sega Japan was able to create Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991. Sega President Hayao Nakayama wants to have a character that will fit the power of the Genesis hardware. This video game is based on controlling the speed of the character. Some obstacles and bosses need to be defeated to win and move to the next level. It's one of the bestselling video games and reached over 140 million units sold in 2016.

The Mortal Kombat movie version made a success in its first film. Although it's a fighting game, the movie version was able to make it less violent. It was approved for younger viewers; even the story plot is about a fight between good and Evil. That gives more sense in the movie, and they were able to make it entertaining for those who like action films.

The game version, however, is one of the most successful fighting games. The game produced 5 billion dollars in total revenue in 2000. In 2012, the Mortal Komabt game sold 30 million units. It made a huge success so in 2015; a sequel Mortal Kombat X was released making 35 million units sold. The game was recognized by the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition in 2008 to be the most successful fighting game series.

6. Resident Evil

The movie version of Resident Evil is a film series that is based in a video game. It's an action-adventure film that's made to be a movie sequel which was made from the previous years. Resident Evil from 2002, Resident Evil: Apocalypse in 2004, Resident Evil: Extinction in 2007, Resident Evil: Afterlife in 2010, Resident Evil: Retribution in 2012, and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter in 2016.

Resident Evil video game is under Capcom, and it has made some sequel from the original game. It's also known as Biohazard in Japan. It's a survival-horror game, and they made this game plot famous. This game is one of the best-selling video game franchise, and they were able to make over 100 million units sold as of 2020.

7. Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia, The Sand of Time movie, was released back in 2010. It's an action-fantasy film that was released by Walt Disney Pictures. The movie version of the video game was a huge success and made $336 million. Although there are some movie critics, it's undeniable that it was one of the highest-grossing video game adaptation.

Jordan Mechner created the Prince of Persia video game. This game is based on a Prince from ancient Iran, and it's an action-packed video game that made a trilogy and other sequels as well. Its popularity got an award from the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008 as the First Motion-Capture Animation in a Video Game and also the Highest Rated Platformer on PS2 and Xbox.

8. Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy, The Spirits Within, is the computer-animated film which is also directed by the creator of the video game Hironobu Sakaguchi. It's the most expensive film made that is based form video games before Prince of Persia. It was premiered in Los Angeles in 2001 following it's showing in July of the same year. However, this film only grossed $85 million compared to the movie budget of $137 million.

The video game Final Fantasy, however, made 154.5 million software sold which makes it one of the best-selling video games of all time. Nintendo released Final Fantasy in Japan in 1987 and reached North America in 1990. Play Station was able to also release three Final Fantasy games in 1997.

Warcraft The Beginning is the film adaptation from the video game series. The movie was released in the US in 2016. Although there are many negative critics, the film was able to reach $439 million that surpass the movie Prince of Persia The Sands of Time which is known to be the highest-grossing film adaptation from a video game.

Blizzard Entertainment made the Warcraft video game franchise. It's made of five core games which are the Warcraft Orcs & Humans, Warcraft II Tides of Darkness, Warcraft III Reign of Chaos, World of Warcraft, and Hearthstone. Warcraft made $11.2 billion in lifetime revenue and is known to be the top-grossing video game of all time.
