So, I’ve talked about CD Projekt Red in a bunch of my previous posts. You can find the links to those at the end of this one.

But today, let’s dive into Cyberpunk 2077 and all the juicy updates on the sequel!

What is Cyberpunk 2077?

Alright, buckle up and get ready for a wild ride, because I’m about to give you the lowdown on Cyberpunk 2077! This game is the ultimate fusion of futuristic awesomeness, high-tech chaos, and a whole lot of neon-lit mayhem.

Picture this: it’s the year 2077, and the world is a sprawling metropolis known as Night City. This place is like Blade Runner on steroids, a vibrant and gritty dystopian playground filled with towering skyscrapers, bustling markets, and a seedy underbelly that’ll make your head spin.

You step into the shoes of V, a badass protagonist who’s all about chasing dreams and making a name in this unforgiving city. But hold up, because Night City isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Nope, it’s a dog-eat-dog world where corporations rule with an iron fist, and every street corner hides danger, intrigue, and mind-bending tech.

Speaking of tech, Cyberpunk 2077 is all about augmentations. Imagine getting to enhance your body with cybernetic implants that give you superhuman abilities. You can jack into the Net, hack into people’s minds, and pull off some seriously epic stunts. It’s like living in a techno-fueled fantasy where your imagination is the only limit.

But it’s not just about being a super-powered badass. Night City is teeming with fascinating characters, each with their own stories, motivations, and secrets. You’ll meet fixers, mercenaries, street punks, and even world-class celebrities who’ll either help you on your journey or stab you in the back. Trust me, you’ll never know who to trust in this place.

And let’s not forget the jaw-dropping visuals. Cyberpunk 2077 is a visual feast for the eyes. The neon lights flicker, the rain-soaked streets glisten, and the city breathes with life. It’s a sensory overload that immerses you in a world where technology and humanity collide.

Now, I won’t lie to you. Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky launch, with a few bugs and glitches that needed some serious tweaking. But fear not! The developers have been hard at work fixing things up and polishing the game to perfection.

A Cyberpunk 2077 sequel?

CD Projekt Red dropped the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phantom Liberty, at this year’s Summer Game Fest. During the demo, we got a sneak peek at CD Projekt’s efforts to fix up the game’s major flaws.

They’re adding a new police AI with a GTA-style notoriety system, a skill tree for combat upgrades, and beefing up car combat. But what’s next after Phantom Liberty?

According to an interview with Bloomberg, Gabe Amatangelo, the director, spilled the beans that he’ll be heading up the full-blown sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Amatangelo will be directing the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which is a pretty big deal.

Amatangelo joined CD Projekt Red in January 2020, right in the final stretch of Cyberpunk 2077’s development. He took over as game director in May 2021 and recently even got promoted to VP. Before that, he worked on DLC for Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Amatangelo’s involvement is just one piece of the Orion puzzle. The other tidbit we know is that CD Projekt intends to switch to Unreal Engine 5 instead of their own REDengine.

Of course, a game the size of Cyberpunk will still require a bunch of in-house technology, but it’ll be interesting to see how the transition to Unreal Engine 5 goes and whether it benefits the sequel or poses some challenges.

Final Words

Back in October 2022, CD Projekt announced their plans for a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel codenamed Orion.

And now, we have confirmation that Amatangelo is in charge of it.

It’s good to know that the person behind the recent updates is handling the sequel too.
