So, in my previous posts, I’ve chatted about all sorts of cool stuff about Minecraft. You can find those linked below.

But today, I wanna talk about something super exciting — the upcoming Minecraft movie! Plus, I’ve got some juicy info on the filming that’s about to kick off real soon. Stay tuned!

Is there a Minecraft movie in the works?

Can you believe it? A live-action Minecraft movie is actually happening! Back when Minecraft was first released, nobody could have predicted how insanely popular it would become.

And get this, they’re actually making a Minecraft movie! Mojang Studios shocked everyone on February 27th, 2014, when they announced that they were working on a Minecraft movie.

Ever since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for its release. But here’s the thing, it’s been eight long years and the movie still hasn’t seen the light of day. So, what’s going on? Will we ever get to see this movie?

Well, let me tell you, the journey to bring the Minecraft movie to life has been a rollercoaster ride. Back in 2014, Warner Bros. got the rights to make the movie and they set a release date for 2019.

But things didn’t go smoothly. They had all sorts of problems, like changing directors and writers. Eventually, Warner Bros. gave up on the project and it ended up in the hands of Universal Pictures.

Since then, the movie has been hit with one delay after another, leaving fans hanging in suspense. Originally, it was supposed to come out in 2019, but the original director, Shawn Levy, and his team left the project.

Luckily, Rob McElhenney, the guy behind “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” stepped in to take over. Things seemed to be going well, but then more setbacks happened. They had to replace writers, artists, actors, and producers.

Despite all the challenges, the studio announced that the movie would finally be released in 2022, and fans went wild with excitement. But then, guess what happened? The COVID-19 pandemic hit, and production came to a screeching halt.

But here’s what we can expect. The movie will definitely feature the game’s iconic blocky designs, and we’ll likely see popular Minecraft skins brought to life as characters. Customizing skins is a big part of the game, and fans can’t wait to see their favorites on the big screen.

And you know what else? Fans are speculating that the Ender Dragon, the big bad boss of Minecraft, will be the villain in the movie. And of course, we can’t forget about the Creepers and Endermen, the classic enemies that are sure to make an appearance.

So, while we’re still waiting for the Minecraft movie to finally hit theaters, one thing is for sure: fans are ready to dive into the blocky world they love so much and see it come alive in a whole new way.

Filming starting soon?

Hey, guess what? After a bunch of ups and downs, it looks like they’re finally getting the ball rolling on the Minecraft movie! According to a report from Productionlist, the filming is set to start on August 7th, 2023 in New Zealand.

You won’t believe who’s directing it — Jared Hess, the guy behind Napoleon Dynamite and Masterminds! And get this, Jason Momoa is gonna be in it too! We’re not sure what role he’ll play, but there are rumors that Pedro Pascal will be Steve. And hey, guess who else is making an appearance? Matt Berry is the hilarious dude from Toast of London and What We Do in The Shadows.

Here’s a crazy thought: Joel from The Last of Us and The Mandalorian could end up being Minecraft Steve. Mind blown, right? Talk about bringing different worlds together!

As for the plot, nobody really knows yet. Some sources are saying it might be based on one of the earlier failed attempts at a Minecraft movie. I’m hoping they throw in a funny jumpscare moment with a Creeper about to explode.

To be honest, Minecraft doesn’t really have a solid plot to begin with, which might be why it’s been such a challenge for them to figure out what the movie should be about.

The first try started back in 2014 at Warner Bros with Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but it fizzled out by 2018. Then, Peter Sollett, the director of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, took a shot at it, but that one got scrapped by 2020.

Final Words

Supposedly, Warner Brothers is planning to release this version of the Minecraft movie on April 4th, 2025.

So mark your calendars for this potentially game-changing video game movie which will either knock our socks off or leave us wishing for a little more.
