In my past stories, I’ve talked a ton about Grand Theft Auto. You can find the links to those at the bottom of this post.

Today, I wanna chat about Grand Theft Auto Online and the latest update that has seriously ticked off a bunch of fans.

What is Grand Theft Auto Online?

Grand Theft Auto Online, often referred to as GTA Online, is the online multiplayer component of the wildly popular Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) game developed by Rockstar Games.

It’s like a virtual playground that drops you into a sprawling, open-world environment where you can wreak havoc, make friends, and live out your criminal fantasies with a massive online community.

Imagine a massive digital metropolis teeming with life and possibilities. In GTA Online, you can create your own character, starting from humble beginnings and climbing the criminal ladder by completing missions, participating in heists, and engaging in all sorts of illicit activities.

You have the freedom to explore the vast city of Los Santos and its surrounding areas, filled to the brim with iconic landmarks, seedy neighborhoods, and breathtaking vistas.

But what sets GTA Online apart is its multiplayer aspect. You can join forces with friends or strangers from around the globe to form crews and tackle missions together.

You can compete in adrenaline-pumping races, epic deathmatches, or engage in fierce gang warfare. The world of GTA Online is constantly evolving with new content updates, keeping players engaged and excited.

Money is a crucial aspect of GTA Online. You’ll need cash to buy fancy apartments, luxurious cars, and all sorts of weapons and gadgets to give you an edge in your criminal endeavors.

You can earn money by completing missions, participating in races, or even robbing banks. And if you’re feeling particularly daring, you can dive into the shark-infested waters of the stock market and try your luck in the world of virtual finance.

Beyond the core gameplay, GTA Online offers a plethora of other activities to keep you entertained. You can buy properties, customize your vehicles, and indulge in various leisure activities like golfing, skydiving, or even going to the strip club (hey, no judgments here!).

There’s a vibrant modding community as well, with players creating and sharing custom game modes and modifications, adding new layers of fun and chaos to the mix.

GTA Online is more than just a game; it’s a social experience. You’ll encounter all sorts of characters during your adventures, some friendly, some not so much.

Whether you choose to cooperate or clash with them is entirely up to you. The game’s voice chat and communication features allow for hilarious and intense interactions, making every session a unique and memorable experience.

Why are GTA fans annoyed after the last update?

Recently, Grand Theft Auto Online dropped its latest update, called San Andreas Mercenaries. It’s got some cool stuff like new missions, cosmetic items, and other improvements that make life easier in the game. However, the fans are pretty mad about what happened to a bunch of vehicles.

Rockstar gives us this awesome update for free, but they also took away around 200 cars and motorcycles from the in-game stores. To make matters worse, they made some of those vehicles exclusive to GTA+ subscribers.

This is the premium version of the game and is only available to those players who have it. You can access these special rides through the Vinewood Car Club, but that’s only for the GTA+ folks.

Now, here’s the thing. This game has been around for a decade, so people expected Rockstar to remove a few old, useless cars that nobody really drives anymore. But that’s not what happened.

Rockstar said they were getting rid of “lesser-used” vehicles from the in-game stores to make shopping easier. They mentioned that some of these cars might show up in other ways, like at The Diamond Casino & Resort’s Lucky Wheel.

But if you check out the GTA forums, players are keeping a long list of all the vehicles that got removed from the in-game websites where you buy them. And let me tell you, the list is extensive.

Players are not happy with Rockstar’s claim of removing “lesser-used” cars because they took away almost everything. One player named SparkySyndicate even said:

“They said lesser vehicles and removed f**king everything.”

That might be a bit exaggerated, but it reflects the frustration people feel. Personally, I would’ve been okay if they removed cars you could just steal from the street and keep in your garage.

But Rockstar went all-out and took away a bunch of vehicles that, let’s be honest, are definitely not “lesser-used.” ImAddictedToGaming said it best:

“I mean seriously, they’re telling me that amazing cars like the Jester and the Massacro, which are affordable and awesome, are used less than some random cars like the Virgo from Ill-Gotten Gains or the Baller LE LWB?

I try to see a bit of logic in everything they do regardless of whether I agree with it or not, but I’m seeing none in this.

I know that they’re probably trying to drive GTA+ subscriptions or boost player numbers, which I get because they’re a business, but removing access to old content, some of which has been available to everyone since 2013, and locking it behind a paywall (or at the very least a FOMO model through event weeks) is disgusting.”

Now, here’s the kicker for PC players. You can’t even subscribe to GTA+ on PC. It’s only available for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X players.

Oh, and here’s another thing. If you already own these cars, you won’t lose them. But if you don’t, tough luck. You either need to play on a console and subscribe to GTA+ or hope that these cars might “occasionally” show up as prizes in the weekly spin-the-wheel events.

Another player named Thrasher9294 said:

“The vast majority of these vehicles are not simply less-common or spawn-on-the-street vehicles.

Some, like the Stirling GT, are among the most competitive vehicles in their specific classes.

And in that particular case, the Stirling GT is still available for purchase — for GTA+ members only at the new “Vinewood Car Club,” a location where 10 vehicles will be shuffled around every week for test driving/purchasing.”

Final Words

It’s kinda mind-boggling to see them tryin’ to bring FOMO into a game that’s been around for, like, a whole decade now.

And, y’know, the community is totally pissed off about it, which makes total sense.
